Playing In The Band: Real Gone Announces Vinyl Debut of Iconic Grateful Dead Gig, Jefferson Airplane Woodstock LP Reissue

PRE-ORDER FROM AMAZON.COM

Real Gone Music has announced a pair of exciting releases from legends of the San Francisco rock scene of the ’60s.  First up is a reissue of Jefferson Airplane’s complete Woodstock set across three LPs.  First released by the label on “new dawn” blue vinyl, the January 31 reissue will be pressed on a “vibrating” violet color variant.  As one of the first acts to sign on for Woodstock, Jefferson Airplane embraced the spirit of the event from the start, but the band’s Saturday night closing set was delayed to Sunday morning due to the rain that seemingly would never retreat.  The Airplane was up all night waiting for the OK to go onstage – which didn’t arrive until 8 am Sunday.  With guest pianist Nicky Hopkins joining, the band performed a scorching, nearly-two-hour set.  Now, listeners who may have missed out on the first run can enjoy the concert on vinyl once again, complete with liner notes from rock and roll authority Richie Unterberger and photos from official festival photographer Henry Diltz.

On February 14, Real Gone will continue its ongoing series of Grateful Dead vinyl reissues with the release of one of the band’s most momentous concerts.  Dick’s Picks Vol. 24: Cow Palace Daly City, CA 3/23/74 captures the Dead’s first-ever show with their legendary Wall of Sound, which the label’s press release states gave the band’s live shows unprecedented clarity despite the enormous, near-bankrupting cost of transporting it from gig to gig.  For its vinyl debut, Real Gone spreads the concert across four 180-gram LPs, mastered from the original tapes by Jeffrey Norman and cut by John Golden.  This pressing was approved not only by Norman and Real Gone’s Gordon Anderson, but also by Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux.  Inside the clamshell box is also a four-page insert featuring the original notes from the CD release.  Limited to only 1,500 copies (each hand-numbered), Deadheads will want to act fast to secure their copies.
