Welcome to this week's Release Round-Up!
Laura Nyro, More Than a New Discovery [Limited Violet Vinyl Mono Edition] (Second Disc Records/Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Today's the day! We're so proud to reissue, for the first time ever on vinyl (and in homage to the artist's favorite color), Laura Nyro's 1967 debut More Than a New Discovery in a violet vinyl limited edition of 1,250 copies. This edition features the original, long out-of-print (and superior) dedicated mono mix which we premiered on CD in 2017 as part of A Little Magic, A Little Kindness: The Complete Mono Albums Collection. This release, beautifully mastered by Vic Anesini at Sony's Battery Studios, features a new insert with photos and Joe Marchese's liner notes. Collectors might also be interested in a red-and-yellow swirl edition, limited to 500 units, available now exclusively through our friends at Vinyl Me Please!
It's Such a Good Feeling: The Best of Mister Rogers [Vinyl Edition] (Omnivore) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Welcome back to the Neighborhood! This celebration of the music of Mister Rogers collects 21 songs recorded by the host and his jazz trio. Among the tracks are the classics "Won't You Be My Neighbor?," "You Are Special," and "It's You I Like." Omnivore has also unearthed previously unissued tracks including "Today is a Very Special Day," "I'm Looking for a Friend," and the series' original closing song, "Tomorrow." While the CD was issued in 2019, the vinyl LP arrives in wide release on January 10, 2020. (A special red vinyl version is already available exclusively through Barnes & Noble.) Note that the vinyl and CD have slightly different tunestacks, with the LP exclusively featuring "What Would You Like to Do Today" and "Many Ways to Say I Love You."
Glen Campbell, Old Home Town: The Collection (BMG) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
In one of the oddest releases seen in a while, BMG has taken Glen Campbell's three 1982-1985 Atlantic Records albums (reissued in September 2019 by Morello Records with one bonus track), dropped three songs, and reshuffled the rest of them into this new 2-CD collection. This one is for Campbell completists only, as the three albums [Old Home Town, Letter to Home, and It's Just a Matter of Time] are available in full on the recent Morello release.
The Drifters, Under the Boardwalk: The Collection (BMG) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
As part of the same series as the above Glen Campbell release, BMG offers Under the Boardwalk: The Collection from The Drifters. This 2-CD set offers 28 cuts from the classic R&B group including the title track, "Up on the Roof," "Saturday Night at the Movies," "There Goes My Baby," "Save the Last Dance for Me," "This Magic Moment," and onetime lead singer Ben E. King's solo "Stand by Me."
Ben E. King, Stand by Me: The Collection (BMG) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
A companion to The Drifters' release is this 2-CD set from Ben E. King. It also has 28 cuts, including the title track, "Moon River," "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)," "Spanish Harlem," "Supernatural Thing Pt. 1," and The Drifters' "This Magic Moment."
Gilbert O'Sullivan, Alone Again (Naturally) (BMG) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Last but not least among this week's BMG entries is this 2-CD, 28-song volume from Gilbert O'Sullivan. Many of the quirky singer-songwriter's all-time favorites are here: "Alone Again (Naturally)," "Get Down," "Clair," "Nothing Rhymed," "Matrimony," "No Matter How I Try," and "Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day."
