We couldn't keep our lips sealed when we got the news about the upcoming autobiography from The Go-Go's Kathy Valentine, entitled All I Ever Wanted: A Rock 'n' Roll Memoir. Due from University of Texas Press on April 9, it's a "roller coaster of sex, drugs, and of course music" beginning in 1980, when Valentine met her future bandmates at The Whisky in LA. She and the group would go on to become the first multi-platinum-selling all-female band that not only wrote their own songs and played instruments themselves. Their No. 1 album Beauty and the Beat included enduring hits like "We Got the Beat" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." But while All I Ever Wanted charts those successes, it also explores the negative side of fame and over-exposure. As the press release says, "it's a story of what it takes to not only find success but, find yourself, even when it all comes crashing down."
It's also a story of Valentine's resilience, "from her childhood in Texas, where she all but raised herself, to the collapse of the band that had come to define her, and the quest to regain her sense of self in the aftermath." Through her roughest times, music was her saving grace.
Valentine is also set to release a new soundtrack album to accompany All I Ever Wanted, with each new work inspired by the chapters of her memoir. She's also planned a nationwide book tour that will include readings, conversation, book signing opportunities, and, of course, musical performances. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak many dates have been postponed, and rescheduled dates will be announced soon.
"These are difficult times and they are hitting us all really hard," Valentine said in a statement. "Having to postpone my scheduled book tour dates is heartbreaking as a first-time author, but my publisher and I believe it is the only course to take. My first concern is the health and well-being of all of you who bought tickets and books for these events. The next priority is supporting the book shops who have so willingly supported the release of All I Ever Wanted. Please keep an eye out for digital surprises and more from me. Together apart we can get through this."

Great re Kathy Valentine but perhaps in addition to the B&B hits Kathy’s song Vacation should have been mentioned?
