Do You Like Huey Lewis and The News? Join Us For Another #TSDTweet This Friday!

April 21, 2020 By The Second Disc 2 Comments

Fore gatefoldA sincere thanks to our readers and friends who joined in to last Friday's live tweet of Prince and The Revolution's Around The World In a Day. It was a nice way to revisit a classic album, a fine memorial to one of our favorite artists, and a nice little show of community in some unusual times.

So it's only natural that we'd do it again - and this time, we're celebrating the 20th anniversary of the striking slasher film American Psycho by giving a listen to one of the albums it gave a most unusual boost: Huey Lewis and The News' fourth studio release, Fore! (1986).

As some may know, "Hip To Be Square" plays a notable role in one of the film's bloodier scenes - no spoilers, but this re-creation with Huey and "Weird Al" Yankovic from a few years ago is quite funny - so it seemed a good time to revisit the follow-up to the band's 1983 breakthrough Sports, which also had its share of huge hits. (Five Top 10s in the U.S., to be exact - one more than Sports actually spun off: chart-toppers "Stuck With You" and "Jacob's Ladder," "Hip To Be Square," "I Know What I Like" and "Doing It All For My Baby.")

Once again, we invite you to swing by The Second Disc's Twitter account on Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. for a spin through this '80s favorite. Hope to see you there!

Love Huey. Think they’ve done nothing but get better with age. I have particular affection for the four new tracks from the 1996 greatest hits, Plan B, Soulville and the 2020 release Weather.

Big part of my growing up in the 70s & 80s...stuff holds up really well, it's pretty timeless stuff...I wonder if the other albums will get the remastered/expanded treatment?? In the meantime, 2 key pieces are Capitol/UMe's CD/DVD Greatest Hits & Videos...and the recent 3CD Ultimate Collection on Universal Holland which has rarities & 12" versions, recent album "Weather" is short but cool, if a bit sad, due to Huey's condition...saw them live, like, 3 times, always fun & a pleasure...also appreciate his friendship/collabs with Nick Lowe too...
