Lively Up Yourself: Bob Marley Estate Continues 75th Birthday Celebrations, Including Partnership With One Tree Planted Initiative

In many ways, 2020 has come to be about doing our part to build a better world.  No doubt, music can be a catalyst for causes and when the proper partnerships are forged, can bring about measurable change.  UMe and the Bob Marley Estate are doing their part and are inviting fans to join in as they partner with the One Tree Planted program.  How it works:  fans can connect their Spotify account to the Stream For Trees portal and for every Bob Marley song streamed, a tree will be planted to fight against deforestation.

The One Tree Planted collaboration is part of a larger Bob Marley 75 campaign, celebrating what would have been the music icon's 75th birthday this year.  This campaign has also included the release of newly remastered, 4K restorations of classic music videos (the "Lively Up Yourself" video premiered Friday, check it out here); a picture disc reissue of the best-selling album Legend due July 24 (featuring an unseen photo on the flipside); a brand-new music video for "No Woman No Cry"; and a new 12-episode series called Bob Marley: Legacy which explores Marley's impact across music, sports, politics, and culture.  Episodes are available on the official Bob Marley YouTube channel with new ones arriving every month of the year.

Keep an eye out for more exciting things to come as the Marley Estate and UMe celebrate Bob Marley 75.  As always we'll keep you updated on any developments.  The Legend picture disc is available for pre-order now.  You can find a full track listing and pre-order links below.

Sam Stone

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.

One could fill up a shelf with nothing but Legend variants. I consider myself a fan for having three copies of Legend, yet they keep coming. If they ever create an entirely dub version, I'll think about it, but the extended mixes from the first Deluxe are pretty bland.

No doubt Legend deserves to stay in print in perpetuity, though! Which is your go-to edition?
