PRE-ORDER CD FROM AMAZON.COM

Last year, Pink Floyd released a re-edited version of Delicate Sound of Thunder, the first breakout release from the expansive box set The Later Years: 1987-2019. The celebration of the David Gilmour-led lineup continues on April 30 with Live at Knebworth 1990, which will be released on CD, 2-LP, and through digital platforms wherever music is enjoyed.

The Knebworth Festival took place June 30, 1990 with a bill that featured Paul McCartney, Cliff Richard, Eric Clapton, Dire Straits, Elton John, Genesis, Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Status Quo, and more. Pink Floyd closed the show, and it effectively served as the final performance of the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour which saw Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason trek across the world for three years. On hand at Knebworth were bassist Guy Pratt, keyboardist Jon Carin, guitarist Tim Renwick, percussionist Gary Wallis, saxophonist Candy Dulfer, and backing vocalists Durga McBroom, Sam and Vicki Brown, and even Clare Torry, who shone on "The Great Gig in the Sky," just as she did on the original Dark Side of the Moon recording in 1973.

Live at Knebworth 1990 will use the same remix and remaster as The Later Years, sourced from the original analog master tapes, but this time it's presented alongside a full-color, 24-page booklet in the CD configuration, and wrapped in a new cover. The 2-LP set boasts a newly designed gatefold sleeve, a 16-page booklet, and is pressed at 45rpm for highest fidelity.

It's available to pre-order now on your preferred format. You can find links to secure your physical copies below. To promote the album, Pink Floyd has released a 2021 edit of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5)," available to stream on your preferred service, like the Spotify widget here.

Sam Stone

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.

No thanks unless it’s a Blu-ray with video. And why not? The Knebworth concert Blu-ray is standard definition and has only two Pink Floyd songs.
