The Rolling Stones' first studio album of the new millennium, 2005's A Bigger Bang, made its mark around the world. It charted in the top five in almost two dozen countries and earned Platinum or Gold certifications in the U.S., U.K., and other international territories. Messrs. Jagger, Richards, Watts, and Wood supported the album with A Bigger Bang, the tour, between 2005-2007 - and it became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time (until U2 usurped its crown). On February 8, 2006, the Stones took the proceedings to Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for a massive free concert. That show was captured on film and released to cinemas and DVD while the audio was broadcast on XM Radio. Now, the mega-show is coming to various formats in remixed, re-edited, and remastered form as The Rolling Stones: A Bigger Bang - Live on Copacabana Beach on July 9 from Eagle Rock Entertainment. Those formats include:
- DVD
- DVD+2CD
- Standard Definition BD
- Standard Definition BD+2CD
- 2DVD+2CD Deluxe (including additional Salt Lake City concert)
- 2 SD-BD+2CD (including additional Salt Lake City concert)
- 3LP (pressed on blue, yellow, and green vinyl)
- 3LP pressed on clear vinyl (exclusive to Sound of Vinyl); and
- Digital download/streaming.
The 20-song setlist in Rio encompassed A Bigger Bang originals including "Rough Justice," "Oh No, Not You Again," "Rain Fall Down," and "This Place Is Empty" as well as tried-and-true Stones staples such as the opening "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Tumbling Dice," "Wild Horses," "Miss You," "Honky Tonk Women," "Get Off of My Cloud," and the finale, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."
Want to sample the audio for the newly-remixed concert? On May 28, Mercury Studios will release a five-track digital EP featuring "Sympathy for the Devil", "Wild Horses", "You Got Me Rocking", "Happy", and "Rough Justice." The latter is not from the Copacabana Beach show but rather from a November 2005 Salt Lake City concert which will be included in the Deluxe Edition release. Also coming in advance of the July 9 date, Mercury Studios will release The Rolling Stones: Rain Fall Down (Live on Copacabana Beach) / Rough Justice (Live in Salt Lake City), a limited 10-inch picture disc, as part of the first Record Store Day Drop on June 12.
Four songs excised from the 2007 DVD release The Biggest Bang have been reinstated for the new presentation: "Tumbling Dice", "Oh No, Not You Again", "This Place Is Empty," and "Sympathy for the Devil." However, fans should hold onto that four-disc set. In addition to the Rio set, it also featured a full-length concert from Austin, Texas; an "Around the World" disc with performances from Japan, China, and Argentina; and numerous bonus documentaries, featurettes, duets with Bonnie Raitt, Eddie Vedder, Dave Matthews, and Cui Jian, and extra songs.
The Deluxe 2DVD+2CD edition of A Bigger Bang: Live on Copacabana Beach is housed in a 12x12 40-page book format, with the Rio concert on DVD and 2CD plus an exclusive bonus DVD of the band's November 2005 concert in Salt Lake City, also from the Bigger Bang tour.

this MUST stop. here we go again with a re release . why wasnt the bonus tracks included the first time. as for the re editing why not just shoot from the front , show them playing with no audience.with no new lp of original material why not do archive sets. they missed the ball on the 50th anniversay of sticky fingers to give this???????? example= vault 1,rolling stones studio outs 1970 to 71. vault 2 1972 to 1973. vault 3 1974 to 1975. thats a whole lot of ground to cover ,5 years but there would be enough undoctored studio tracks and a few live shows complete with session detail. instead heres another live release. UGH

I think I'll I'll stick with my 2995 deluxe with extras until these guy actually release something new, The Who did it-why can't they?
resenting on their knighthood?

The blu-ray is standard definition? Yikes, why bother. The Sound of Vinyl is showing the blue, yellow and green LP's instead of clear.
Joe Marchese says
Thanks, Tom. We've fixed the Sound of Vinyl link.

BDs support higher quality audio than DVD, but there doesn’t seem to be any info about audio specs for this release.

So essentially I have to buy the $100 package in order to get the Salt Lake City show and the 4 additional songs that weren't included in the earlier Rio release. Oh yeah, and I would also get a book full of pictures. Nobody wants to look at pictures of these guys anymore. I have been a truly loyal fanboy since 1967 (I'm 64) and this is how they repay their fans for their loyalty. This and having to pay $700 to get a seat in a stadium anywhere close to the stage to see the same show they've been doing since 1989. On top of that Jagger has to mouth off about American politics and antagonize half of his fan base. I will always love and listen to their music, but I have zero admiration for them and refuse to turn my money over to them anymore. I doubt that I'm the only who feels this way.
