Spike Jones in Stereo: A Spooktacular in Screaming Sound! (Omnivore)
CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Omnivore Recordings
LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Omnivore Recordings
The late, great Spike Jones’ side-splittingly spooky 1959 album In Stereo: A Spooktacular in Screaming Sound! returns from Omnivore Recordings in time for Halloween as freshly remastered from the original tapes. Led by an illustrious company including Paul Frees (Boris Badenov, The Haunted Mansion’s Ghost Host), Thurl Ravenscroft (“You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” Tony the Tiger), Loulie Jean Norman (Star Trek), and George Rock (“All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”), the Spooktacular became a favorite of the likes of Dr. Demento and “Weird Al” Yankovic. Omnivore’s reissue offers new liner notes by TSD’s Joe Marchese, drawing on interviews with Spike’s children. Available on CD and LP. Read more here!

Genesis, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway: Super Deluxe Edition (Rhino)
4CD/Blu-ray: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
5LP/Blu-ray: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
A new deluxe version of Genesis’ prog classic The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway will be a multi-disc celebration – four CDs or five LPs, a Blu-ray Audio disc and a download card – of the group’s acclaimed work. Inside the box will be a new remaster of the original mix of the album, done by Miles Showell with assistance from Nick Davis (who remixed the band’s catalogue for stereo and surround in the ’00s); a remastered and restored performance of the full album at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles from 1975 (for the first time featuring the album’s closing track “It.” and two encore songs); three unreleased demos included as a digital download; and a high-resolution presentation of the original album as well as a new Dolby Atmos mix by Bob Mackenzie at Gabriel’s Real World Studios, working under the supervision of both Gabriel and keyboardist Tony Banks. A 60-page coffee table book rounds out the set, featuring new liner notes by Alexis Petridis (utilizing new interviews from every member of the band), rare images and replicas of tour programs, tickets and posters. Frank Zappa, One Size Fits All: 50th Anniversary Edition (Zappa/UMe)
4CD/BD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Zappa Online Store
2LP “Black Glitter” Vinyl Edition: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Zappa Online Store
1LP “Blue Galaxy” Vinyl Edition: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Zappa Online Store
Following last year’s deluxe expansion of 1974’s Apostrophe (‘) and the recent restoration of the same year’s concert film Cheaper Than Cheep, Frank Zappa’s archival team is turning the page to 1975 and expansively revisiting One Size Fits All in time for its 50th anniversary. The guitarist-songwriter-bandleader-producer’s twentieth album (and fourteenth with The Mothers of Invention), it featured the by-then-familiar lineup of keyboardist George Duke, drummer Chester Thompson, percussionist Ruth Underwood, bassist Tom Fowler, and saxophonist Napoleon Murphy Brock. One Size Fits All continued their jazz-rooted satirical explorations, and reached No. 26 on the Billboard 200. It returns from Zappa Records and UMe in a variety of formats including 4CD/Blu-ray; 2LP; 1LP; and digital formats. Read more here!

XTC, Drums and Wires [Steven Wilson Dolby Atmos Mix] (Ape House)
CD/Blu-ray: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
One of XTC’s great early albums is getting another facelift courtesy of remixer Steven Wilson. The Porcupine Tree musician and engineer counts the Swindon cult heroes among his earliest remix work, fashioning new stereo and surround mixes of Drums and Wires, Black Sea, The Big Express, Skylarking, Oranges & Lemons and Nonsuch between 2013 and 2023 (along with a compilation of the group’s psychedelic work under the alter ego The Dukes of Stratosphear). With multitrack tapes for additional Virgin-era XTC albums proving tough to come by, Wilson revisited Skylarking in Dolby Atmos last year, and has now done the same for Drums and Wires. The new CD/Blu-ray edition adds a little more to the proceedings, carrying over most of the material from the last reissue with some revisions and additions. Get more details here.

The Led Zeppelin co-founder/vocalist returns with a new album (his first solo studio set since 2017) and a new band consisting of vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown. Saving Grace was recorded between 2019 and 2025 in the Cotswolds and on the Welsh borders, featuring the music of another era filtered through Plant’s folk and blues sensibilities.

Mariah Carey, Here For It All (Mariah/Gamma) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The pop and R&B superstar’s 16th studio album and first since 2018 arrives today featuring a solo version of hit single “Sugar Sweet” and a cover of Paul McCartney’s classic ballad “My Love.” Available on CD, LP, and digital formats.

The Broadway Ensemble, The Billy Joel Project (Yellow Sound Label) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
You’ve likely read a lot here lately about Billy Joel and the documentary And So It Goes – including Mike’s comprehensive breakdown of its staggering, seven-hour soundtrack. (That’s two hours longer than the film itself!) Well, we’re not the only ones in the mood for a melody. The Broadway Ensemble has paid tribute to the piano man with a full-length album previously available digitally and now out on CD. The Billy Joel Project features such stage stars as Annie Golden (also of the groundbreaking band The Shirts), Farah Alvin, Michael Winther, Aaron Ramey, John Treacy Egan, and Nicholas Rodriguez on new arrangements of classic Joel hits and deep cuts. The first single, “She’s Got a Way” performed by Donna Vivino of Wicked, Hell’s Kitchen, and Les Misérables fame, was released earlier this year. It’s joined by highlights including Winther’s tender “You’re My Home,” Egan’s moving “Summer, Highland Falls,” and Golden’s earthy “Turn the Lights Back On” (certainly one of its first covers). It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Joel’s melodies lend themselves to theatrical interpretation; Twyla Tharp’s Movin’ Out, set entirely to his music, ran for 1,303 performances and over three years on Broadway. Billy Joel and Broadway are both New York institutions, and this album (also featuring a custom-made Joel overture and entr’acte!) brings them together again in a most enjoyable fashion.

Available on CD, LP, and digitally.

Jeff Tweedy, Twilight Override (dBpm) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
