The Black Keys, a.k.a. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, are marking 10 years of El Camino with anniversary editions from Nonesuch Records:
- 5LP Black Vinyl Super Deluxe (limited to 3,500 units, available now);
- 3LP Black Vinyl Deluxe (available now);
- 3LP White Vinyl Deluxe (limited to 7,500 units, available now);
- 5CD Super Deluxe ("extremely limited availability," available December 3); and
- Digital/streaming.
El Camino, the band's seventh album, was co-produced by Auerbach and Carney with Danger Mouse and recorded in Nashville at Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound Studio during spring 2011. Primarily performed by just Auerbach and Carney, it featured Danger Mouse on keyboards and background vocals from Leisa Hans, Heather Rigdon, and Ashley Wilcoxson. Drawing on stripped-down rock-and-roll, R&B, rockabilly, and surf rock, El Camino yielded the hit single "Lonely Boy" which peaked at No. 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 but topped the Alternative Songs and Rock Songs charts. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with sales of over 200,000 copies in its first week alone, and in the year-end chart, reached No. 10 as well as that same No. 2 plateau on the Rock and Alternative Album surveys. The Grammy Awards recognized El Camino with Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Song (the latter two for "Lonely Boy"), and Auerbach won Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for his work on the album as well as LPs from other artists. It's since been certified multi-platinum around the world.
The 10th anniversary Super Deluxe Edition on 5 LPs or 4 CDs (or digitally) features a remastered version of the original album, the previously unreleased Live in Portland, ME concert recording, a BBC Radio 1 Zane Lowe session from 2012, a 2011 Electro-Vox session, a photo book, poster and lithograph, and a "new car scent" air freshener. The 3LP Deluxe Edition includes the remastered album and the live recording.
The band's tenth album, the blues covers set Delta Kream, was released to critical acclaim earlier this year. Auerbach has kept busy, too, spinning off the Easy Eye Sound Records label from his studio. Providing an outlet for Auerbach's productions, the label has recently released rootsy LPs from such artists as Yola, Tony Joe White, Robert Finley, and Aaron Frazer.
All editions of El Camino are out now other than the 5CD set which will arrive in stores on December 3. You'll find the track listing and order links below.
