Ten years ago, The Rolling Stones named their tour 50 & Counting which turned out not to be an exaggeration at all, considering The World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band is still going strong today even after weathering the loss of drummer Charlie Watts.  On February 10, Mercury Studios will commemorate a special night on that tour with the release of GRRR Live!, a 24-song set recorded at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on December 13 and 15, 2012.  The concert will be released in a variety of formats including 3LP black vinyl, 3LP red vinyl, 3LP white vinyl, 2CD/Blu-ray, 2CD/DVD, 2CD, and digitally.  The DVD, BD, and digital versions will include Dolby Atmos mixes.

The 30-show, career-retrospective 50 & Counting tour kicked off in October 2012 with two intimate performances in Paris, France; it wound up almost a year later with two concerts at London’s Hyde Park which drew over 130,000 people each night.  All told, over 450,000 people attended the tour, with revenue nearing $150 million.  Band alumni Mick Taylor and Bill Wyman both made special appearances, while the touring group each night included Bernard Fowler and Lisa Fischer on background vocals; Darryl Jones on bass; Bobby Keys on saxophone; Chuck Leavell on keyboards; and Tim Ries on saxophone.

GRRR! was, of course, the name of the Stones’ greatest-hits album released in various formats in November 2012, the cover of which featured a gorilla with the band’s tongue-and-lips logo.  While the gorilla is seemingly absent from the current release, many of the songs which appeared on the earlier release are present on this one, including “The Last Time,” “Get Off of My Cloud,” “Wild Horses,” “Honky Tonk Women,” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”  A number of Stones classics are also heard with special guests who dropped by the Prudential Center on December 15, 2012 including Lady Gaga on “Gimme Shelter,” The Black Keys on “Who Do You Love,” Gary Clark, Jr. and John Mayer on “Going Down,” the band’s former guitarist Mick Taylor on “Midnight Rambler,” and New Jersey’s own Bruce Springsteen on “Tumbling Dice.”

The concert, which originally aired on pay-per-view, has been re-edited and remixed for its appearance on DVD and Blu-ray as part of this campaign.  In addition, three performances from the December 13 Newark show are included as bonus features on the DVD and BD: “Around and Around,” “Gimme Shelter,” and “Respectable,” the latter featuring John Mayer.
