Back to Where You Once Belonged: The Beatles Premiere Complete, Official Rooftop Concert Audio Tonight

January 27, 2022 By The Second Disc 7 Comments

The Beatles Get Back The Rooftop Performance

LISTEN TONIGHT ON ALL STREAMING SERVICES

The Beatles' Get Back on Disney+ was the streaming event of 2021, but the celebration of all things Fab hasn't slowed down in the new year.  The expansive three-part series from director Peter Jackson arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on February 8; then, on March 18, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opens a new exhibit, The Beatles: Get Back to Let It Be.  This immersive complement to Jackson's documentary will run at the Cleveland museum until March 2023.  But before the home video release and the exhibit, fans will have the chance to listen to the complete audio to the band's January 30, 1969 rooftop concert on digital streaming platforms.

Tonight at midnight EST/9 pm PST (tomorrow at 5 am GMT), Apple Corps will release Get Back: The Rooftop Performance as newly mixed in stereo and Dolby Atmos by Giles Martin.  The concert was seen in its entirety within the Jackson film, and will screen as optimized for IMAX in theaters across the U.S. and U.K. this Sunday, January 30 as a 60-minute feature also including a new introduction and a filmmaker Q&A.  The 42-minute concert features nine complete takes of five songs - "Get Back," "Don't Let Me Down," "I've Got a Feeling," "One After 909," and "Dig a Pony" - as performed atop the roof of 3 Savile Row in London.  The streaming release marks the first official audio presentation of the entire concert.  No physical iteration has been announced.

Following the 2021 releases of the Let It Be box set from Apple Corps and the Get Back companion hardcover from Callaway Arts and Entertainment, further events will pay homage to the Get Back/Let It Be sessions and the Rooftop Concert.  Tomorrow (Friday, January 28), Norah Jones will release two rooftop tribute performance videos of "Let It Be" and "I've Got a Feeling," appropriately filmed on the rooftop of the Empire State Building in New York City.  Both videos will debut on Jones' YouTube Channel tomorrow at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT.  Satellite radio giant SiriusXM will premiere The Rooftop Concert Special tomorrow morning at 11 am EST, including the complete rooftop audio with commentary from Beatles historian and author Kevin Howlett.  The special will be available to stream on the SiriusXM app and will also re-air during the weekend.

On Saturday, the cast of Cirque du Soleil's long-running show The Beatles LOVE at Las Vegas' Mirage will also release a rooftop performance.  They've taken to the roof to perform the LOVE version of "Get Back."  It will debut on Cirque du Soleil's YouTube Channel at 6am PST / 9am EST / 2pm GMT. A behind-the-scenes/making-of video for the tribute performance will debut one hour later on the channel at 7am PST / 10am EST / 3pm GMT.

The Rooftop Performance festivities kick off tonight with the streaming release of the concert.  You'll find the complete track listing below!  Peter Jackson's Get Back can be pre-ordered on DVD and Blu-ray from Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada!

Wonder if a CD will be available later on. Maybe when the Blu-Ray comes out.

I imagine that there would be some exclusive RSD vinyl release first, then maybe a CD around the next holidays.

On Amazon the listing reads: The Beatles Get Back: Season 1. What does that mean?

I wouldn't read too much into "Season 1." My guess is that, because there is more than one episode, it's a "series" rather than a "movie," and if it's a "series," then it must have "seasons" (even if there will never be a season 2). So the Get Back mini-series is "season 1" by default.

No reason this couldn’t have been included in the box set. None whatsoever.

Naturally it’s only streaming. Can’t even purchase it.
