On July 12, 1962, The Rollin' Stones - a.k.a. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, and Dick Taylor - took the stage at London's Marquee Club. Shortly after that initial gig, a "g" was added to the band's name. By February 1963, the classic line-up was in place of Jagger, Richards, Jones, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts. Sixty years later, The Rolling Stones have earned their unofficial moniker of The World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band. ABKCO is marking that anniversary with the debut of a new vinyl box set. The Rolling Stones 7" Singles 1963-1966 arrives on June 10 with eighteen 7-inch singles and EPs from the band's remarkable first years as originally issued on the Decca and London labels.
This release reconfigures the 2004 CD box sets presenting the identical content in miniature replica sleeves, containing the entirety of The Singles 1963-1965 and the first four discs of The Singles 1965-1967. Like the earlier CDs, the new vinyl edition features Bob Ludwig's remastering and fully restored original artwork for each single and EP. These eighteen U.S. and U.K. singles and EPs reflect the Stones' transition from rock-and-roll and blues revivalists - with covers of Chuck Berry, Willie Dixon, Leiber & Stoller, Arthur Alexander, Allen Toussaint, Berry Gordy and Janie Bradford, and Jerry Ragovoy - to accomplished songwriters and record-makers.
Among the selections are the band's early U.K. hit covers of Chuck Berry's "Come On" and Lennon and McCartney's "I Wanna Be Your Man;" the band's first U.S. chart entry, reinterpreting Norman Petty and Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away;" and chart-toppers including Bobby and Shirley Womack's "It's All Over Now" (No. 1 U.K/No. 26 U.S. Billboard Pop), Willie Dixon's "Little Red Rooster" (No. 1 U.K.), and Jagger and Richards' "The Last Time" (No. 1 U.K./No. 9 U.S.), "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (No. 1 U.K. and U.S.), and "Get Off of My Cloud" (No. 1 U.K. and U.S.).
The vinyl release comes with a 32-page booklet featuring Nigel Williamson's liner notes plus photos, as well as a set of five photo cards and a poster. It's all housed within a sturdy, hard-shell box. The second collection in the series, 7" Singles 1966-1971, will pick up next year where this box leaves off with another international No. 1, "Paint It, Black."
In the meantime, The Rolling Stones 7" Singles 1963-1966 is due on June 10 from ABKCO. You'll find the complete track listing and pre-order links below.

$237 Canadian? I think not. The whole catalogue needs an update, Abkco can not seem to get it right for any of the artists they have rights to.
