Welcome to this week's Release Round-Up, featuring a selection of new titles available in stores and online today!
ABBA, Album Box Set (Polar/UMe)
CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
Picture Disc Bundle: Official Store
To coincide with the arena show ABBA Voyage setting sail in London on May 27, the band's 2021 studio album Voyage will be canonized in a new career-spanning box set featuring every one of the quartet's nine studio LPs plus a specially-curated collection of singles and B-sides. The new box clones the previously released The Vinyl Collection, offering all the original international track lists on each album and adding Voyage, plus the collection ABBA Tracks, which offers a dozen non-album highlights. While it's far from complete, Album Box Set offers a succinct package - complete with original record sleeves and a 40-page booklet - for fans who perhaps fell in love during the Mamma Mia! era but haven't yet taken a deep dive. And the inclusion of a strong finale like Voyage might sweeten the deal, too. Read more here.
Sex Pistols, The Original Recordings (UMC)
CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
2LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
The Original Recordings - categorically unauthorized, per John Lydon, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten - is a simple 20-track summary of the short-lived punk icons' discography, culled mostly from their sole album Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols (1977) and odds-and-ends soundtrack The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle (1979), plus a few non-LP B-sides. The ostensible hook for the disc: the impending airing of Pistol, a fictionalized miniseries about the group (based on guitarist Steve Jones' memoir) to premiere on Hulu in America and Disney+ around the world on May 31. B.T. Express, Do It ('Til You're Satisfied) [Remastered & Expanded Edition] (Iconoclassic Records) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Iconoclassic Records reissues B.T. Express' 1974 crossover smash Do It ('Til You're Satisfied) in a definitive expanded edition. Despite the fact that the album scored mightily on the Billboard charts, reaching No. 1 R&B and the top five of the Pop survey, it's long lacked a proper CD reissue with the correct artwork, proper sequence, and full-length audio. That all changes with Iconoclassic's smashing reissue, a fitting tribute to a group that earned ten R&B chart entries (including two No. 1s) and five Pop hits. The new Do It features three bonus tracks, comprehensive liner notes, original album artwork, and remastered, full-length audio. Read more here!
Carnival: Original Broadway Cast Recording - Deluxe Edition (Stage Door) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Stage Door Records)
The Grand Imperial Cirque de Paris is coming back to town! Stage Door Records has the latest in its series of Deluxe Edition cast recordings with a 2-CD expanded edition of the original 1961 Broadway Cast Recording of Michael Stewart and Bob Merrill's Carnival! The musical archaeologists at Stage Door have added choice renditions of Merrill's tunes from such diverse artists as Joni (James) and her husband Tony (Acquaviva), Mel Tormé, Pat Boone, and The Everly Brothers as well as two complete studio recordings. Composer-bandleader Cyril Ornadel's recording was issued on MGM as a complement to the label's cast recording and The Paul Smith Ensemble's Carnival in Percussion arrived on sister label Verve. (Electric organist Smith's album features "Magic, Magic," a duet between Rosalie and Marco that wasn't included on the original cast album.) Stage Door has even appended one track from German-born American zither player Ruth Welcome's full-length Carnival! LP, recorded with notable arranger Klaus (or Claus) Ogerman. Another rare treat is Anna Maria Alberghetti's live "Love Makes the World Go 'Round" from a Stars for Defense radio broadcast. All three albums on Stage Door's set are presented in stereo.
Suzi Quatro, The Rock Box 1973-1979: The Complete Recordings (Chrysalis) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
This 7CD/1DVD box set presents Suzi Quatro's six studio albums and a live album released between 1973 and 1979, along with a DVD featuring various clips, Top of the Pops performances, and a concert from Japan in 1975. Also included is a 56-page booklet with reminiscences from Suzi and guitarist Len Tuckey as well as an essay by Dave Simpson.
Sparks, Exotic Creatures of the Deep / The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman (BMG)
Exotic Creatures of the Deep (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The 21st Century Sparks collection concludes today with two more reissues from the band's recent catalogue. Five bonus tracks have been added to 2008's Exotic Creatures of the Deep while 2009's The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman is presented with its original tracks only. Both albums have been newly remastered. Read more here.

Available on CD, LP (where the four demos are presented on a 10-inch EP), cassette, and digitally.
Various Artists, David Hepworth's Deep '70s: Underrated Cuts from a Misunderstood Decade (Edsel) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Acclaimed U.K. rock journalist David Hepworth has compiled this new 4-CD box set featuring hidden gems from a wide range of artists including Daryl Hall and John Oates ("Abandoned Luncheonette"), John Prine ("The Late John Garfield Blues"), Little Feat ("Trouble"), Michael Nesmith and The First National Band ("Beyond the Blue Horizon"), Mott the Hoople ("I Wish I Was Your Mother"), Linda Ronstadt ("Love Is a Rose"), Carly Simon ("Anticipation" - okay, this one's not so hidden!), Valerie Simpson ("Love Woke Me Up This Morning"), and The Roches ("Hammond Song"). It's packaged in a hardcover book-style format with 36 pages including track-by-track liner notes and an introductory essay. Also available as a 2-LP highlights edition pressed on clear vinyl. Watch this space for an in-depth look at this title!
Steve Ellis, Finchley Boy (Edsel) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Steve Ellis (Love Affair, Widowmaker) has compiled this 10-CD set collecting his work from 1967-2021. Finchley Boy collects the powerhouse singer's recordings with Love Affair, the band Ellis, and Widowmaker as well as six solo albums and the soundtrack to Loot, plus associated bonus tracks. It's all packaged in a sturdy box with a signed print by Ellis and a 36-page booklet containing Jon "Mojo" Mills' liner notes plus copious photos and memorabilia. We'll have a closer look at Finchley Boy next week!
Def Leppard, Diamond Star Halos (Bludgeon Riffola/Mercury) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Def Leppard deliver their first studio album in seven years with Diamond Star Halos. Country queen Alison Krauss lends her vocals to two of the 15 new songs, "Lifeless" and "This Guitar," while the album references the glam sounds of T. Rex, David Bowie, and Mott the Hoople throughout. Target's exclusive CD edition adds alternate cover artwork and two bonus tracks: the "Joe-only" mix of "Lifeless" and the "Avant Garde Version" of "Goodbye for Good This Time." Also available on vinyl, cassette, and digitally.
