Rush's ninth studio album, Signals, had the unenviable task of following up the band's 1981 commercial breakthrough, Moving Pictures. Canadian rockers Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart built on the sound of Moving Pictures with their continued use of electronic instrumentation and were rewarded when the album reached the top ten in the United States as well as the top five in the United Kingdom and No. 1 in their native Canada. The album produced by Rush and longtime collaborator Terry Brown yielded three singles; "New World Man" topped the chart in Canada and became Rush's biggest U.S. hit (and only U.S. top 40 Pop entry) with a No. 21 placement on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Top Tracks chart. On April 28, Mercury/UMe will revisit the oft-reissued Signals as a 1CD/1LP/1BD/4-7" single Super Deluxe Edition to (belatedly) mark its 40th anniversary.
Adorned with new cover artwork by Hugh Syme cover, the 40th anniversary Signals contains the following:
- 2015 remastered Signals on CD (previously issued on vinyl) for the first time;
- 2015 remastered Signals on half-speed mastered, 180-gram LP in a tip-on jacket;
- Blu-ray Audio Disc featuring Signals in both Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround mixes by Richard Chycki as well as the 2015 remaster in 48/24 stereo, new animated visualizers, and music videos for "Subdivisions" and "Countdown";
- "Subdivisions" b/w "Red Barchetta" (Live) 7-inch single;
- "Countdown" b/w "New World Man" 7-inch single;
- "New World Man" b/w "Vital Signs" (Live) 7-inch single; and
- "New World Man" (Single Edit) b/w "Digital Man" 7-inch single.
The box is rounded out with a 40-page hardcover book featuring previously unpublished photos from the Signals tour and new illustrations, plus an assortment of swag: three lenticular pieces transitioning from black-and-white headshots into the "Digital Man" color headshots, four Signals tour lithographs, a replica of Syme's original cover sketch; and a double-sided poster with Syme's art on one side and an outtake photo from the cover shoot on the other side.

No live stuff from the Signals tour no sale for me. A lost sale for lots of people wanted to get this but won't without this live material big mistake who put this together.
I’ll be boycotting any further box sets that contain vinyl and/or do not contain bonus material. These prices are getting ridiculous.
Big mistake to avoid vinyl! Sound quality is SO much better than a CD.

I was interested in purchasing this until I noticed no additional live concert material. Also,the pricing on this makes this a non purchase for me.
A very expensive set that provides basically no new material. This is a collectable for the Uber-Rush fan, nothing more.
I'm a 'Toronto Kid', therefor I am automatically an Uber-Rush-Fan...and even I can't see the point of this release. All the previous ones had CD-only sets, with lots of neat extras, and they were great to re-listen to and recall our youth. I was hoping Signals 40th would continue the thrill, but that's not going to happen now is it?
Why are they not releasing the 40th anniversary of this issue like they did the other ones

Exactly my thoughts too! Every other "40" release has had the Big Vinyl box set, and a double CD release for those of us on a lighter budget, or just have No Use for the Vinyl as it's just become an expensive collectors Fad at the moment! What the heck are my favorite Canadians thinking??
Not buying this either. And I was really looking forward to it. Greed and stupidity create a really bad combination. I'm surprised Rush approved this.
You know, Rush has always shown appreciation for their fans through the years. At least that's what they've said over and over. However, they have really screwed their fans on these anniversary sets by forcing fans to buy vinyl if they want the box set, which likely adds about $80 to the already expensive package. Very few bands have packaged their box sets in this manner. Most have a vinyl release and a digital release in various configurations but they are separate. It has really pissed me off as a life long fan that has already spent thousands of dollars over the year supporting them.
The Rush reissues have been great. I guess that all stops now. What an overpriced and frankly, lame release. The next reissue will probably be the even more ridiculous “download only” release. I don’t understand why these record companies can’t seem to get through an entire band’s’ discography without screwing it up halfway through.
Serious Rush fans are not digging this release. I think we all know that there isn't much bonus outtake material. There might be some alternative versions. But it seems that live material from the tour would go a long way in pumping up the package.

This will be the first box that I will not purchase. I can’t believe there was no live material during the signals tour that could not be produced.
Sadly I was really looking forward to this release. There were so many venues they played they could surely have included life material from 1982. Over priced undervalued. Hard to pass.

I find it hard to believe that they don't have a live show from the Signals tour recorded. I have no interest in vinyl or collectible photographs of the band members. In my mid 50s. I don't want toys and collectible junk I just want music

Same here. The 2015 remaster on CD. Is it too much to ask. Not everyone has fallen for the big vinyl con.
a worthless release/
This is one of my favourites from my favourite band. I was so hoping for and highly anticipating a 40th Anniversary release of this album. A nice package indeed...but no live stuff?!!? This was a very interesting and exciting phase in terms of Rush's live sound, still way before live sound became too good for its own good. I don't think I'll be buying this one...I love you, guys but come on...
