Last year, rumors began abounding that Paul Simon was back in the studio recording a new album which would be his first since 2018’s In the Blue Light and first of original material since 2016’s Stranger to Stranger.  2018 was also the year when Simon said goodbye to the road with his Homeward Bound tour.  That farewell tour culminated on September 22 in an unforgettable hometown show at Queens’ Flushing Meadows Corona Park, but Simon has revealed that he’s far from done with music.  Those rumors and hopes of a new record have come true.

On May 19, the venerable singer-songwriter will unveil Seven Psalms, his fifteenth studio album, in its entirety; no instant grat or preview tracks will be offered earlier.  The reason for that is simple: Seven Psalms is a 33-minute suite of music consisting of seven compositions which are meant to be played as one continuous piece.  The album has been produced by Simon and Kyle Crusham, and was recorded by the artist entirely on acoustic instruments.  Focused on the intimacy of Simon as vocalist and guitarist, the album also features choral contributions from British vocal group VOCES8 and an appearance by singer-songwriter (and Paul’s wife) Edie Brickell.

The press release shares that “Seven Psalms reaches back to the very genesis of folk music: King David’s Psalms…A step apart from anything Paul Simon has released before, Seven Psalms defies categorization.”  A close-up extract of Thomas Moran’s “Two Owls” is featured as the cover artwork.

It will be released on CD, LP (apparently presenting the seamless suite with a side break), and on digital platforms via Owl Records and Legacy Recordings.  You’ll find pre-order links below.
