Welcome to another edition of The Weekend Stream, The Second Disc's review of notable catalogue titles (and some new ones, too!) making digital debuts. This week brings live tracks from The Boss, rarities from Sheena Easton and a new album from one half of rock's biggest (defunct) duo - plus, as you'd expect, so much more!
Bruce Springsteen, The Live Series: Songs from Around the World Vol. 2 (Columbia/Legacy) (iTunes / Amazon)
With Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band currently venturing across Europe through this summer, the time is right for another streaming-only collection of hits and deep cuts drawn from archival concerts available on Nugs.net - all of which, on this set, are recorded at great venues around Europe and Australia.
U2, Please EP (Island/UMe) (iTunes / Amazon)
The fourth of 12 digital catalogue EPs U2 plans to release this year is also the fourth they've released from 1997's Pop. With two singles from that album uncovered (and eight EPs to go), what do you think the others will be? Most of the '80s material, Achtung Baby, Zooropa and All That You Can't Leave Behind are pretty covered, and smart money would imagine a reissue of material How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb for its 20th anniversary later this year. Are you as curious as we are?
Sheena Easton, A Private Heaven: The Studio Sessions / A Private Heaven (The Instrumental Mixes) / Sugar Walls EP / Swear EP (RT Industries)
Studio Sessions: iTunes / Amazon
Instrumental Mixes: iTunes / Amazon
Sugar Walls: iTunes / Amazon
Swear: iTunes / Amazon
Material from Cherry Red's 2022 reissue of Sheena Easton's A Private Heaven was recently released digitally, including an instrumental EP and mixes from several of the album's singles, including the salacious Top 10 hit "Sugar Walls," written and produced by Prince.
John Ford Coley, Eclectic / Long Way Home: Live in Israel & L.A. / Very Best of John Ford Coley / Sketches Vol. 1 (StarVista)
Eclectic: iTunes / Amazon
Long Way Home: iTunes / Amazon
Very Best: iTunes / Amazon
Sketches: iTunes / Amazon
Best known for a string of '70s soft rock hits with "England Dan" Seals (the younger brother of Jim Seals of Seals & Crofts), John Ford Coley started recording and touring as a solo artist after the duo split in 1980. These four albums of his are now streaming, including 2021's Sketches Vol. 1, released digitally for the first time ever; it includes the song "Falling," which Dan and Coley reunited to write before Seals passed away in 2009.
INXS, Devil Inside (12" Mix) (Petrol/Atlantic) (iTunes / Amazon)
Another one from All Juiced Up Part 2! This one's the original extended version of Kick hit "Devil Inside," as mixed by Francis Kevorkian.
John Oates, Reunion (Jasper Productions) (iTunes / Amazon)
John Oates likely knew that the title of his new solo album would raise eyebrows. Once you get past that, however, Reunion is a finely-wrought collection of rootsy, Americana-tinged material from the singer-songwriter-guitarist. The voice is still familiar even if the settings aren't, and Oates has once again surrounded himself with formidable talent including A.J. Croce (co-writer of the title song), Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Sam Bush. With the ghost of John Prine lingering - Oates even covers his "Long Monday" - Reunion showcases another side of the artist.
Bleachers, Bleachers (Deluxe) (Dirty Hit) (iTunes / Amazon)
When he's not producing for A-listers like Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff fronts his neo-Springsteen revival band Bleachers, who recently released their self-titled fourth album. Now they've issued a deluxe version with eight bonus tracks taken from various vinyl versions of the set.
BETTY, "Pride" (Dischord Records) (iTunes / Amazon)
The indie-rock trio BETTY - a.k.a. sisters Elizabeth and Amy Ziff and pal Alyson Palmer - preview "Pride," a track from their upcoming album EAT. The anthemic song will help launch NYC Pride and boasts beats from Mexican Grammy Award-winning DJ Human Fader and production from Jason Carmer (The Donnas, Third Eye Blind).
Water for Elephants: Original Broadway Cast Recording (Ghostlight) (iTunes / Amazon)
Ghostlight Records has released the Original Broadway Cast Recording of Water for Elephants to all digital platforms, with a CD planned for later this year. The circus-themed musical with a folk-tinged score by the PigPen Theatre Co. garnered an impressive seven Tony Award nominations including Best Musical, and this evocative album makes it clear why. Water for Elephants features a book by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, Peter and The Starcatcher) based on Sara Gruen's novel. It stars Grant Gustin (TV's The Flash), Isabelle McCalla (The Prom, Shucked), four-time Tony nominee Gregg Edelman (City of Angels), and Paul Alexander Nolan (Slave Play) and is currently packing houses at The Imperial Theatre on Broadway.

Dave Matthews Band Live Trax Vol. 46 is available, and the bonus tracks from the deluxe edition of Alabama Shakes' Sound & Color are back after a long absence.
As for U2, we've still got Mofo from Pop presumably incoming; I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rattle & Hum singles and Sweetest Thing '98 (which had a handful of early '80s live cuts as b-sides); and I'm not holding my breath, but short of the entire album appearing, it'd be great if they could at least round up the solo Bono cuts from the Million Dollar Hotel soundtrack. I don't think there's much (if anything) missing from the Atomic Bomb era, so I'd lean more toward the ATYCLB singles being added (even though most of those b-sides were already corralled into the 20th anniversary box set).

Sony is remastering Sylvia’s RCA albums, with “Drifter” and “Snapshot” available now. They are being remastered by Vic Anesini. I’m not sure if he remastered “Just Sylvia”, which has been available for several years.
