Omnivore Recordings has announced that the label is going back to the '90s with three upcoming titles from Seattle grunge band Green Apple Quick Step.  The 2-CD Dizzy: The Medicine Label Anthology is due out on July 25.  It contains both of the band's albums for the label as well as several bonus tracks.  In addition, each album is going to be released individually on vinyl.

Founded in 1992, Green Apple Quick Step's members included lead vocalist Tyler Willman, guitarists Daniel Kempthorne (a.k.a. Daniel J. Travanti of The Briefs) and Steve Ross, singer-bassist Mari Ann Braeden, and drummer Bob 'Mink' Martin.  Hailing from Tacoma, Washington, the group made the move to Seattle and got signed to the Medicine Label as grunge was beginning to hit the mainstream.  Their first album, 1993's Wonderful Virus, was produced by Daniel Rey (Ramones, King Missile, Misfits) and mixed by Ron Saint Germain.  It was recorded at Ann and Nancy Wilson's Bad Animals Studio.  Thanks to such memorable tracks as "Dirty Water Ocean" and "Ludes and Cherrybombs," the band gained some attention on alternative radio.

Green Apple's next album hit store shelves in 1995.  Produced by Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard and Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine), Reloaded built on the angsty sound of Wonderful Virus while embracing a somewhat more accessible, commercial side of the band.  It featured the single "Dizzy," which would be included on the soundtrack and in the film The Basketball Diaries.

Green Apple left the Medicine Label after Reloaded for Columbia Records, where a third album was recorded.  However, it was never released and the group soon disbanded.  They have reunited several times over the years for reunion shows.

Michael Graves has newly remastered the audio for all of the reissues.  Wonderful Virus will be released on red vinyl and Reloaded comes on white vinyl.  There are no bonus tracks on the vinyl reissues, but the 2CD set features 13 bonus tracks including 4 previously unreleased cuts.  In addition, the deluxe CD package contains a booklet with liner notes from our very own Joe Marchese that draw upon a new interview with Ty Willman.

We've got the tracklistings and pre-order links below if you would like to take a step back to the grunge era with Green Apple Quick Step on July 25.  As an Amazon affiliate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Seems like a real missed opportunity to include the shelved final studio album, New Disaster, and neatly wrap up the band's entire body of recorded work.

Agreed. Probably still on hold by Columbia.
