The Doors are set to alter fans perception once more with a new box set featuring their classic albums remixed in Dolby Atmos.

Immersed (1967-1971), available exclusively through Rhino’s or the band’s official web stores, gathers the six classic LPs released during frontman Jim Morrison’s lifetime – The Doors (1967), Strange Days (1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970) and L.A. Woman (1971) – on Blu-ray Audio discs, each featuring surround mixes in Atmos as well as 5.1 surround by the group’s longtime engineer Bruce Botnick. (Botnick created 5.1 mixes for the 2006 box set Perception; it was not made clear in the press release if these are the same as what’s in that package. He also created an Atmos mix of the 1985 compilation The Best of The Doors last year.) High resolution (24-bit/192 kHz) versions of the original stereo albums are also included, all housed in mini-jacket replicas of the original LP sleeves.

“With Atmos, having loudspeakers on the ceiling allows ‘Riders on the Storm’ to come alive with rain and thunder,” Botnick said in a statement, “and on ‘Horse Latitudes,’ it highlights the theatrical claustrophobia of Jim’s poetry.”

The Doors have celebrated their 60th anniversary with a myriad of titles this year, including a box of the same material from Immersed in Rhino’s High Fidelity vinyl series, a Record Store Day vinyl release of their Live in Detroit set, the digital release of archival live releases from their Bright Midnight label and the book Night Divides the Day: The Doors Anthology. Another title will be released to commemorate the milestone as well next month: a new vinyl pressing of the band’s quadruple-platinum compilation Greatest Hits (1980), part of the Rhino Reserves series of high-quality reissues. It’s cut by Matthew Luthans at The Mastering Lab using the original analogue master, and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing. It’ll start shipping October 17 and can also be pre-ordered at either Rhino’s web store or the band’s.
