The Weekend Stream: September 20, 2025

Welcome to another edition of The Weekend Stream, The Second Disc’s review of notable catalogue titles (and some new ones, too!) making digital debuts. Lenny Kravitz gets expanded, The Doors revisit a classic concert, J. Lo goes Broadway, and much, much more!

Lenny Kravitz, Circus (Deluxe Edition) (Virgin/UMe) (Apple / Amazon)

Kravitz’s top ten album from 1995 receives thirteen bonus cuts in this digital-only expansion, including live and acoustic tracks plus three studio cuts previously available on an EP and as vinyl bonus tracks (“Another Life,” “Confused,” “Is It Me, Is It You”).

The Doors, Live at Konserthuset, Stockholm, September 20, 1968 (Bright Midnight/Rhino) (Apple / Amazon)

Rhino again digs into The Doors’ Bright Midnight Archives for these 1968 sets featuring “Light My Fire,” “Love Me Two Times,” and even a snippet of “Mack the Knife” leading into “Alabama Song.”

Aerosmith & Yungblud, “My Only Angel” (Capitol) (Apple / Amazon)

Though the future of the Bad Boys from Boston appeared to be up in the air in 2024 after Steven Tyler’s fractured larynx forced the cancellation of their planned farewell tour, it seems you can’t keep a band like Aerosmith down. Weeks after Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry teamed up with British singer Yungblud for a tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne on the MTV Video Music Awards (the trio also played Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning farewell show in July, weeks before his passing), Yungblud and the whole classic Aerosmith line-up have teamed up for the new single “My Only Angel,” from the upcoming EP One More Time, due out on November 21 in CD, LP, and digital formats. It’s reported to feature four new originals, with both Tyler and Yungblud trading vocals throughout (with the support of Perry, second guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer, the latter of whom did not perform with them on tour) – as well as a new take on the Aero classic “Back in the Saddle.”

Matt Rogers & Bowen Yang, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing (Live from 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards)” (Lionsgate) (Apple / Amazon)

Thought that was the only Aerosmith-related new title on streaming today? I don’t think so, honey! Comedian Matt Rogers and his Saturday Night Live bestie Bowen Yang have hosted the delightful podcast Las Culturistas for nearly a decade, turning their faux Culture Awards into a real-life, over-the-top send-up of awards telecasts that was this year broadcast on reality TV haven Bravo. Among the broadcast’s many high points was a musical “In Absentia” tribute to all the celebrities that didn’t bother showing up, from Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey to Yang’s Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. As the duo performed a sweet rendition of Aerosmith’s chart-topping 1998 power ballad to score the montage, the boys were given a fun surprise when one of the “absent” players, alt-pop singer Lucy Dacus, showed up to take the song home. Rule of Culture No. 66: “We could all use a laugh lately – make sure you check this out.”

Lena Hall, Best of “Obsessed” (Ghostlight) (Apple / Amazon)

Ghostlight has culled favorites from Tony Award winner Lena Hall’s series of EPs celebrating artists including Elton John, David Bowie, and Pink into a new 14-track digital compilation which also premieres Hall’s interpretations of Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and Radiohead’s “Burn the Witch.”

Jennifer Lopez, “Never You” from Kiss of the Spider Woman (Lakeshore) (Apple / Amazon)

Another track has been unveiled from the upcoming soundtrack of Kiss of the Spider Woman: the soaring Kander and Ebb ballad “Never You,” originally cut from the stage musical but reinstated for the film.

Jazz Passengers, In Love (RCA/Legacy) (Apple / Amazon)

Jeff Buckley, Debbie Harry, Mavis Staples, Jimmy Scott, Freedy Johnston, Bob Dorough, and Marc Ribot are among the artists heard on The Jazz Passengers’ eclectic 1994 set helmed by the late Hal Willner. It makes its streaming debut this week.

Fourth Generation, Plays a Jim Croce Songbook (RCA/Legacy) (Apple / Amazon)

On the same week BMG has released The Definitive Croce, Legacy unearths this 1975 instrumental album of Jim Croce covers including renditions of “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” “I Got a Name,” “Time in a Bottle,” and “You Don’t Mess Around with Jim.”

Jim Connor, Personal Friend of Arthur Kuykendall, Monk Daniel and Cluny Rakestraw (RCA/Legacy) (Apple / Amazon)

Banjoist Jim Connor (Richard and Jim, The New Kingston Trio)’s 1975 RCA long-player hits streaming services; on it, Connor is supported by such A-listers as James Burton, Ron Tutt, Dennis St. John, and Emory Gordy as well as producer Milt Okun.

Terry Garthwaite, Terry (Arista/Legacy) (Apple / Amazon)

The lone Arista LP from singer-songwriter Terry Garthwaite (Joy of Cooking) gets freshened up for its 50th. Bobby Womack, Ron Carter, Wah Wah Watson, and John Guerin are among the musicians bringing the tunes (including numerous Garthwaite originals) to life.

B-52’s, Love Shack (Apple / Amazon) / Channel Z (Apple / Amazon) / Deadbeat Club (Apple / Amazon) (Rhino)

Rhino offers three EPs filled with remixes related to The B-52’s 1989 album Cosmic Thing: “Love Shack,” “Channel Z,” and “Deadbeat Club.”

Daryl Hall and Dave Stewart, “Peace One Day” (Daryl Hall & Dave Stewart) (Apple / Amazon)

Daryl Hall and Dave Stewart, who recently collaborated on Hall’s 2024 album D, are in a soulful bag on this anthemic new single that’s timelier and more relevant than ever.  This Sunday marks the United Nations’ annual Peace Day – play it loud.

Kristin Chenoweth, “Caviar Dreams” from The Queen of Versailles (Masterworks Broadway) (Apple / Amazon)

Broadway Queen Kristin Chenoweth previews the upcoming cast recording of her new musical The Queen of Versailles with this cut from Wicked composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz’s new score.

Ramin Karimloo, Pity the Child (Westway Music) (Apple / Amazon)

Can’t wait for Chess to open on Broadway? While we wait, Ramin Karimloo (Funny Girl, Pirates! The Penzance Musical) offers his own spin on one of the classic songs by Tim Rice and ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson.

  1. Great write up.

Bill Anderson and Jan Howard’s “If It’s All The Same To You” was also put up to streaming this weekend. This is only the second Jan Howard major label offering put onto streaming, the other being her other Bill Anderson duet Lp “Bill & Jan” which hit streaming a few months ago. Hopefully this is a sign that the Howard estate has agreed on releasing her exceptional catalog. (Hopefully)

Alexis Korner’s “Get Off My Cloud” has also hit streaming, and RCA’s “The Bothers” Lp titled “Disco Soul” also hit streaming – though “Disco Soul” sounds like RCA used a vinyl as the source for some of the Lp.

  2. The Monkees’ upcoming 4-CD Super Deluxe Edition of “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd.” briefly appeared on streaming services, but was quickly withdrawn. It’s still available for purchase at Pro Studio Masters for those who can’t wait until the boxed set is officially announced on October 2nd.
