Over three years after the release of Sail On Sailor: 1972, The Beach Boys’ long-running archival series is back in full force with a new box set available today (with new orders scheduled to ship on March 20). We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years brings together highlights from the band’s 1974-1977 period, with the title referring to the band’s own Santa Monica studio. The set will look a bit different than the past releases in this series, eschewing separate CD and LP formats for a combined 3LP/3CD box with a number of tracks only in the CD format. We Gotta Groove opens with the 1977 album The Beach Boys Love You, which Al Jardine has been celebrating on the road with The Brian Wilson Band in the wake of Wilson’s 2025 passing at the age of 82. Disc Two sheds some light on the long-mythologized (and long-bootlegged) Adult/Child, another intensely personal album spearheaded by Brian Wilson which ended up shelved. The third and final set here is dedicated to outtakes and alternate mixes relating to 1976’s 15 Big Ones and beyond. A CD-only version is exclusive to Japan. Legacy returns the 2003 release of the late Jeff Buckley’s complete Live at Sin-é – recorded a decade earlier in summer 1993 at a tiny New York club – to print on 2 CDs or 4 LPs. The original four-song EP was Buckley’s Columbia debut. Tracks include “Grace,” “Last Goodbye,” and Buckley’s transcendent take on Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
Bat for Lashes, Fur and Gold: 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition (BMG) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
BMG reissues the debut album from Bat for Lashes, a.k.a. Natasha Khan, as a 2CD edition with a bonus disc of nine previously unreleased tracks. A single LP of the original album is also available; both formats have been newly remastered at Abbey Road.
Paul Anka, Inspirations of Life and Love (Green Hill) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Paul Anka revisits old favorites (“Anytime (I’ll Be There),” “Let Me Try Again,” “Freedom for the World,” “(All of a Sudden) My Heart Sings,” “Love Never Felt So Good”), tackles songs associated with his friend Frank Sinatra (“It Was a Very Good Year,” “That’s Life”), and adds more to his considerable repertoire on this new, lushly-orchestrated album. Inspirations of Life and Love is available on CD, LP, and digitally.
Seal, Purpose: Celebrating 30 Years of the Classic Albums ‘Seal I’ and ‘Seal II’ (Mercury Studios) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Mercury Studios brings this 2023 concert from Las Vegas’ Venetian to a CD/Blu-ray set. Seal was joined by producer Trevor Horn for this set celebrating his first two albums; the concert is interspersed with interview footage on the Blu-ray Disc.
