Frank Black, Teenager of the Year – Live (3LP Gold/Green/Red vinyl; RSD Exclusive; 2,2oo copies) (2CD; RSD Exclusive; 1,300 copies)
“In 2025 I toured with my 1994 band, the same group who were the principal players on a record called Teenager of the Year,” comments Frank Black of this new RSD exclusive release. “This record documents that tour, which was a kind of 30-year birthday for the original double LP. Each of the 22 tracks are, to my mind, quite different from each other; but I think rather than a lack of cohesiveness, they are joined beautifully in a crown of royalty, each retaining its individual charm while contributing to a sum that is greater, almost perfect, like 10 toes and 10 fingers and also an extra finger. Teenager of the Year was the only award I’ve ever received (back in high school), and you can smell that teen spirit resurrection on TOTY, and I hope 30 years later some of that funk remains.” This concert was taken from Black’s performance at the London Palladium, and also includes five songs from Black’s 1993 solo debut.
Doctor Who, The Day of the Troll (2LP “Trollface” vinyl; RSD Limited Run/Regi0nal; 1,000 copies)
Tenth (and Fourteenth) Doctor David Tennant has been rather busy of late, maintaining a busy onscreen presence in such television programs as Rivals, The Four Seasons, Time, and (soon) Only Murders in the Building. With new Doctor Who adventures currently absent from TV screens, it’s a great time to revisit the wealth of Who stories from other media. This 2009 BBC Audio tale by writer Simon Messingham (and featuring Murray Gold’s arrangement of Ron Grainer’s theme tune) is narrated by Tennant. The Tenth Doctor lands on Earth in the distant future and finds a barren, ravaged England. What is the menace lurking under a bridge and why is it making people disappear? The double-vinyl edition of this spooky adventure tale is pressed on “Troll Grey” vinyl and includes illustrated inner sleeves.
Fischerspooner, #1 (Vivid Hot Pink vinyl; RSD Exclusive; 1,5oo copies)
Electroclash duo Fischerspooner’s 2001 debut album, including EDM anthem “Emerge,” receives a 25th anniversary reissue from Demon on hot pink vinyl.
Rainbow, Rarities 75-76 (2LP Red/Yellow vinyl; RSD Exclusive; 2,200 copies)
Long live rock ‘n’ roll: Demon concludes its celebration of the early years of Ritchie Blackmore’s hard rock supergroup Rainbow with this new gatefold 2LP set. Rarities 75-76 compiles rare mixes, mono and stereo edits, and studio rehearsal performances from the period that yielded the Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Rising LPs, with over half of its tracks never available on vinyl before. All twelve tracks, including alternative versions of “Do You Close Your Eyes,” “Man on the Silver Mountain,” and “Stargazer,” have been mastered for this new collection by Andy Pearce & Matt Wortham. It’s pressed on red and yellow vinyl.
Labi Siffre, Remember My Song (Yellow vinyl; RSD Exclusive; 2,000 copies)
Moving to EMI in 1974 for his fifth LP, Remember My Song, singer-songwriter Labi Siffre relinquished arrangement and production duties to Derek Lawrence and Big Jim Sullivan, respectively. While the album still boasted orchestrated pop and contemporary rock stylings, it gained notoriety for its funkier tracks. Eminem sampled “I Got The” for his Dr. Dre-produced “My Name Is,” its riff helping to propel the young rapper to superstardom. DJs latched onto the album’s breakbeats, part of Siffre’s determination to expand the boundaries of his writing and sound. On Remember My Song, he wrote in character and stretched his songcraft, eschewing traditional forms for a looser approach. The album returns from Demon on “saffron yellow” vinyl for Black Friday.
