Herb Alpert catalogue reissues (Herb Alpert Presents)

The Brass is back!  This remarkable campaign spanning 25 albums released between 1962 and 2011 features most of Alpert's classic Tijuana Brass and solo albums (including the seminal Whipped Cream and Other Delights, which kicked off the program last November), many of which weren't addressed in the last Alpert reissue series from Shout! Factory.   All will be reissued in newly-remastered editions from the original analog master tapes.  Each album is packaged in a replica of the original artwork (with no new liner notes or other elements), and five titles in the series (including the already-available Whipped Cream) will also be issued on 180-gram vinyl.  Note that while Christmas Album is not included in the series, it too was reissued last year.  Click here for the full list with order links!

John Phillips and Stomu Yamash'ta, The Man Who Fell to Earth: Original Soundtrack (Universal U.K.) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

The world premiere soundtrack release of the cult 1976 film starring David Bowie features the work of John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas fame (who composed specifically for the film), and Stomu Yamash'ta.  This is the first audio release of the music heard in the film.  Though an album was promised on Bowie's then-label RCA in 1976, it never materialized for a variety of reasons.  That story is explored in the 48-page hardcover book that accompanies the deluxe 2-CD release.  A 2-LP version (with fewer tracks) and a CD/LP deluxe box will arrive on November 18.

I listened to The Beatles Hollywood Bowl on Tidal. I may be crazy but it seems like it has more echo than the 70s vinyl did. It's annoying to me at least. Be interesting to see what others think.

I sure wish they'd issue the mono Ramones CD separately. It sounds incredible! I can't believe the difference. There are some extra 1, 2, 3, 4s from Dee Dee on the mono version too. I was skeptical it would even matter. It does matter!

You're the first person to comment on the Ramones mono mix, Murray. That's really interesting. I was holding off on the set because I, too, was holding out for a separate, cheaper mono release, and because I don't need the vinyl that comes in the Deluxe set, but your comments have my wheels turning. That said, knowing my luck, I'll buy the Deluxe and they'll release a single mono CD a week later! 🙂
