This career-spanning retrospective of rare and previously unreleased material from the late Tom Petty arrives on Reprise Records.  The aptly-titled An American Treasure will be the first posthumous collection of Petty material, and it should prove a vital reminder of the power of Petty's art.  The box set, assembled by Petty's wife Dana, daughter Adria, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and producer Ryan Ulyate, will feature never-before-heard studio recordings as well as live material, deep cuts, and alternate takes of Petty classics.  It spans the period of 1974-2016, and draws upon his recordings with Mudcrutch, the Heartbreakers, and his solo catalogue.  It's available in 4CD, 6LP, and 2CD formats.  Read more here!

Sadly, this celebration of Aretha Franklin's first years at Atlantic Records first announced back in July has become a posthumous one.  Yet her music remains as vibrant and powerful as ever.  Available on CD and digital platforms, it boasts the 34 classic singles which the legendary Queen of Soul released during her first three years with Atlantic. This new collection shines a deserved light on the late Clash frontman's work outside of his famous band - solo, with former bandmate Mick Jones, and with his 101ers and The Mescaleros.  001 will be available in a variety of formats, including 2CD, 2CD Deluxe, 4LP, and a 2CD/4LP/7″/Cassette Super Deluxe edition.  The first CD compiles 20 sides showcasing Strummer's many musical endeavors including soundtrack selections, collaborations with Jimmy Cliff and Johnny Cash, and cuts from The Astro-Physicians, Radar, Electric Dog House, and Joe Strummer & The Latino Rockabilly War.  The second disc boasts a treasure trove of 12 previously unreleased tracks from the solo Strummer as well as the triumvirate of Strummer, (Paul) Simonon and (Pete) Howard; The Soothsayers; Pearl Harbour; and Strummer with The Mescaleros as well as Mick Jones.  There's more to read here!

The long out-of-print 1969 album from the duo of Glenn Frey and J.D. Souther was remixed, remastered and reissued earlier this year as part of the Above the Clouds box set; today, the disc gets a standalone CD and vinyl LP release.

The musical archaeologists at Modern Harmonic have dug up two discs and 30 tracks' worth of previously unheard demo recordings from Charlie and Ira Louvin in their 1950s heyday.  Available as a hardcover book-style 2CD or 2LP set; both formats are packaged with copious liner notes and rare photographs.

Skip Spence's one-of-a-kind 1969 album Oar is revisited on this new 3-CD, hardcover book-style package featuring the original album plus the 1999 bonus tracks and roughly two hours of never-before-heard session material.

Hot off her role in the blockbuster Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again, Cher devotes an entire album to the songs of ABBA, including "Dancing Queen," "S.O.S.," and "Fernando," the latter of which is reprised from the movie.  Coming November 30 on vinyl.

Teddy Thompson, Colin Firth, Martha Wainwright, Jools Holland, and Justin Vivian Bond are among Linda Thompson's guests for this special salute to the world of English music hall and variety.  My Mother Doesn't Know I'm on the Stage presents comic, theatrical, and popular songs from the 18th and 19th centuries that still hold up...and marvelously so.  Thompson (One Clear Moment; Shoot Out the Lights with then-husband Richard) and her zesty troupe have crafted one of the year's most happily inspired offerings.

A stroke forced the cancellation of the planned August 2017 release of this new studio album from Loretta Lynn.  But the true survivor persevered, and completed this album of songs written or co-written by her, including both new tunes and remakes of classics like "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "God Makes No Mistakes."  Also available on vinyl.

King Kong - A Jazz Musical: Original London Cast Recording (Stage Door Records) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

No, not THAT King Kong!  Stage Door Records has excavated Todd Matshikiza and Pat Williams' 1959 musical inspired by the life and death of the heavyweight boxing champion Ezekiel Dlamini. Once cited by Nelson Mandela as his favorite musical - he even attended its opening night - King Kong helped launch the career of cast member Miriam Makeba.  It transferred to London's West End in 1961 and received a cast recording there; that album is reissued by Stage Door with additional selections from the South African recording featuring Makeba.  Pop covers of the score round out this expanded release.
