The English Patient

A breakthrough for one of Hollywood's biggest composers, a cult classic Western and an Oscar-winning '90s film are among the film scores being revisited by some of our favorite reissue labels this month. La-La Land has released a new presentation of Hans Zimmer's score to 1988's Rain Man. The Barry Levinson comedy-drama (a four-time Oscar winner, including Best Picture and Best Director) stars Tom Cruise as a brash young man who discovers that his late father's estate was bequeathed to an

Stanley Iris grande

Varese Sarabande Records has quite the bounty of soundtrack CD club releases this spring, announcing two stellar deluxe editions and reissuing a favorite album on disc. First up, a double-header for John Williams fans: his 1990 score to the romantic drama Stanley & Iris and the premiere release of his score to 1972's Pete 'N' Tillie. Stanley & Iris starred Robert De Niro and Jane Fonda as two struggling coworkers in a baking factory--she struggles to make ends meet with her extended

Dick Tracy

Intrada has added two scores from very popular composers to their Special Collection line: Basil Poledouris' soundtrack to 1980's romantic drama The Blue Lagoon, and Danny Elfman's ambitious score to Disney's 1990 adaptation of Dick Tracy. Based on the 1908 novel of the same name, The Blue Lagoon starred Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins as two cousins shipwrecked on a South Pacific island, living (and loving) in a faraway paradise. The R-rated antics of the couple caused a stir, as

Robocop 3 OST

We're continuing our Movie Monday with a look at the most recent soundtrack releases from Varese Sarabande's CD Club! It's all "B"s in Varese Sarabande's newest CD Club batch, but these are all A-list scores! The label is expanding two great sci-fi/action scores--Basil Poledouris' RoboCop 3 (1993) and Marco Beltrami's Hellboy (2004)--and releasing a special reissue of John Barry's Jagged Edge (1985). There's no superhero quite like Hellboy. As depicted in the Dark Horse Comic of the same
