Welcome to another edition of The Weekend Stream, The Second Disc's review of notable catalogue titles making digital debuts. A light release week combines three unlikely bedfellows: a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-inducted rapper, a classic pop crooner, and a hero of alternative rock. Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (10th Anniversary Edition) (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope/UMe) (iTunes / Amazon) Eminem's eighth album from 2013 served as a sequel of sorts to his acclaimed third album from
It's a new year, and Bandcamp Fridays are back! The beloved independent music service brings back their beloved mini-holiday today (February 4), and again on March 4, April 1 and May 6. On those days, they'll waive the fees they make off music they host - all the money will go directly to artists and labels. (And artists typically make more there than other platforms, just saying.) Thanks to impressive results ($4.3 million spent on music and merch, 15 times an average Friday's revenue), Bandcamp will repeat the strategy not once, but thrice: the first Fridays of each month (today, May 1; June 5 and July 3). At the end of this month, alt-rock outfit Miracle Legion are playing their final dates together, including a date this Friday at New York's Bowery Ballroom and two closing dates on April 28-29 in California. It seemed right to shine a little light on a band that, without warning, has come to mean a great deal to me. Like most late twentysomethings, my exposure to Miracle Legion and its frontman Mark Mulcahy came in the form of another band: Polaris, three-fourths of Miracle Legion which came
