SesameStreetBornToAdd

Warner Music Group and Sesame Workshop have recently announced a joint effort that marks the relaunch of Sesame Street Records, the label that released over 60 classic originalSesame Street albums from 1970 to 1984.  To celebrate 50 years since the program first aired, the extensive Sesame Street music catalog, including original titles and newer collections from Golden Music, Koch and Sony Wonder, has finally joined the streaming age.  As of this writing, a whopping 119 titles--many previously

Second Disc HQ always buzzes when new catalog acquisitions are announced, and last week had us feeling like bees...Bee Gees, that is! Last Tuesday, it was announced that distribution of the legendary Australian trio's discography (including 22 studio albums, the bestselling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, compilations and unreleased material) would transition from longtime home Rhino to Capitol/Universal Music Enterprises. Barry Gibb, along with his late brothers Robin and Maurice, guided

Saved by the Bell

Give me a smile!  With the new release of Robin Gibb's Saved by the Bell: The Collected Works of Robin Gibb 1968-1970 (R2 549315), Rhino/Reprise has unveiled the most significant archival collection related to The Bee Gees in nearly a decade.  Not since 2006's The Studio Albums 1967-1968 has the vault door been opened to reveal such a remarkable wealth of pop treasure from an artist with the surname of Gibb - in this case, the late Robin. This three-CD set, produced with stunning attention to

Saved by the Bell

A few weeks ago, Rhino released Bee Gees: 1974-1979 which followed from last year’s Bee Gees: The Warner Bros. Years 1987-1991.  Both boxes contained the complete studio albums from those periods plus some bonus material.  Now, fans of the Bee Gees and the Gibb brothers should have more to look forward to as Rhino’s sister label Reprise has just announced a new set chronicling the recordings of one of the band’s members during a two year period: Saved By the Bell: The Collected Works of Robin

Bee Gees 1974 1979

For many veteran artists, disco was simply a mountain that couldn’t be climbed….not that they didn’t try.  The Beach Boys, Grateful Dead, Elton John and so many others – even Frank Sinatra! – flirted with the genre only to find that that those sultry disco grooves weren’t as easy to emulate as they may have appeared to be.  Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb not only climbed the mountain, but conquered it.  The brothers had already amassed a back catalogue of some of the richest, most melodic and

robin gibb 50 st catherines drive

Earlier this year, Barry Gibb took to the road with his Mythology Tour, in which he looked back on the music of The Bee Gees and his decades-long collaboration with his late brothers Maurice and Robin. Barry's warm onstage tributes to Robin, who died of cancer in May 2012, were among the emotional high points of each concert, with Barry candidly and affectingly acknowledging the friction that sometimes characterized their relationship. Barry’s son Stephen paid homage to his uncle with his lead

bee gees warner bros years

Tonight, Barry Gibb’s Mythology tour continues making its way through the United States, as the surviving member of The Bee Gees celebrates his family’s legacy in song. From humble beginnings in Australia (1965’s The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs) through international stardom and a final studio farewell (2001’s This is Where I Came In), Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb mastered an ever-shifting array of styles. Baroque, lightly psychedelic pop/rock ceded to tough funk-infused R&B,
