Edsel’s new 5-CD box set collects three albums by Eddi Reader (Fairground Attraction) as made for Geoff Travis’ Blanco y Negro label between 1994 and 1998. Collaborating with Fairground Attraction’s Mark Nevin and The Bible’s Boo Hewerdine on Top 5 album Eddi Reader yielded the singles “Patience Of Angels” and “Joke (I’m Laughing).”  Candyfloss And Medicine and Angels & Electricity included songs co-written with keyboard player/co-producer Teddy Borowiecki as well as more songs by Hewerdine. Two bonus CDs complete the story of this period, rounding up many non-album singles and B-sides.  The booklet contains full credits and lyrics, and new annotation by Colin Irwin.

Bear Family has recently continued its series chronicling the early days of country-rock!  The two discs comprising Volume 3 (1970) include songs by The Band, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Mike Nesmith and more, while Volume 4’s pair of CDs presents 1971 recordings by Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Johnny Cash, Ry Cooder, Little Feat, New Riders of the Purple Sage and others!  Future volumes will take this comprehensive series through 1975!

Indecent Proposal OST

John Barry, Indecent Proposal (Expanded Edition) (Intrada)

The original 1993 soundtrack to Indecent Proposal featured 1993 album offered numerous songs heard in the film plus a 26-minute medley of composer John Barry’s score highlights in one single track. Intrada’s new score-only CD features 74 minutes of pure Barry.  The MCA soundtrack album was produced by Barry, using an assortment of takes both from the actual film soundtrack and cues especially recorded for the album. All versions appear here plus further previously unreleased cues, score revisions and alternates.  It’s all presented from the two-track stereo session mixes courtesy Universal Music Group and Paramount Pictures.

The Lost Weekend

Miklos Rosza, The Lost Weekend: Music from the Motion Picture (Intrada)

Intrada goes back to the Golden Age of Hollywood with this world premiere release of nearly every cue scored for Billy Wilder’s 1945 Academy Award-winning Best Picture. Rosza’s evocative score is presented with never-before-heard alternates and revisions, for a total of almost 70 minutes of music.   While suites and excerpts have been recorded by different artists over the years (including one with a synthesized theremin), this new Intrada CD is the first official release of the actual soundtrack recorded at Paramount’s scoring stage in April and May 1945 conducted by Irvin Talbot.

Over the past two decades, Joe has also worked in a variety of capacities on and off Broadway as well as at some of the premier theatres in the U.S., including Lincoln Center Theater, George Street Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, and the York Theatre Company. He has felt privileged to work on productions alongside artists such as the late Jack Klugman, Eli Wallach, Arthur Laurents, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. In 2009, Joe began contributing theatre and music reviews to the print publication The Sondheim Review, and in 2012, he joined the staff of The Digital Bits as a regular contributor writing about film and television on DVD and Blu-ray.

Joe currently resides in the suburbs of New York City.
