New Looks from an Old Lover – The Complete Columbia Singles from B.J. Thomas gathers up all of the A and B sides the singer recorded for that label during his tenure there in the 1980s including the No. 3 Country hit “Two Car Garage” and two No. 1s: “Whatever Happened To Old-Fashioned Love” and “New Looks from an Old Lover.”  It’s all been newly remastered by Sean Brennan at Battery Studios, and features liner notes from TSD’s Joe Marchese!

Sinatra and Jobim’s sublime 1966 Reprise album gets a remastered anniversary reissue with two bonus tracks: a medley of “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars/Change Partners/I Concentrate on You/The Girl from Ipanema” medley from the A Man and His Music + Ella + Jobim television special; and a previously unreleased alternate take of “The Girl from Ipanema” from the session of January 31, 1966.  Available on CD, DD and LP.  Read the full details here!

David Allan Coe, The Complete Hits (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Controversial country outlaw David Allan Coe signed with Columbia Records in 1974 and would remain there through 1987.  During his tenure, he notched 31 hits on the Country chart including 1983’s No. 4 “The Ride” and the No. 2 “Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile” from 1984.  These 31 hits comprise the tracklisting of Real Gone’s new 2-CD compilation, which features notes from Chris Morris and remastering from Chris LeMonde.

Allen Ginsberg, Reads Kaddish-A 20th Century American Ecstatic Narrative Poem (Limited Red Vinyl Edition) (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

One of Beat Generation legend Allen Ginsberg’s early projects was the only release on Atlantic Records’ spoken-word Verbum series.  Released in 1966, Allen Ginsberg Reads Kaddish – A 20th Century Estatic Narrative Poem, features the author reciting his epic autobiographical poem Kaddish, which was first published in 1961.  This new red vinyl edition – the album’s first vinyl reissue – is limited to 1,700 copies.

Poetry For The Beat Generation features Beat Generation hero Jack Kerouac reciting poetry over television host and composer-pianist Steve Allen’s musical accompaniment.  Real Gone’s new vinyl edition of this 1959 classic is colored “beatnik smoke” black-and-white and is limited to 900 copies.

Brinsley Schwarz, It’s All Over Now [Vinyl LP] (Mega Dodo)

More than 40 years after it was recorded, legendary pub rock outfit Brinsley Schwarz’s final studio album It’s All Over Now is finally hitting record stores!  Recorded in 1974, the album sat unreleased as the band’s members went their separate ways.  But now, U.K. label Mega Dodo, which released a live collection from the band in 2015, will release an official version of It’s All Over Now with ten previously unreleased tracks plus the original band version of “Cruel to Be Kind,” first issued as  B-side by Nick Lowe in 1978.  The vinyl edition is due today, with the CD to follow on May 12.  Read more here!

JOE MARCHESE (Editor) joined The Second Disc shortly after its launch in early 2010, and has since penned daily news and reviews about classic music of all genres. In 2015, Joe formed the Second Disc Records label. Celebrating the great songwriters, producers and artists who created the sound of American popular song, Second Disc Records, in conjunction with Real Gone Music, has released newly-curated collections produced by Joe from iconic artists such as Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Laura Nyro, Melissa Manchester, Chet Atkins, and many others. He has contributed liner notes to reissues from a diverse array of artists, among them Nat "King" Cole, Paul Williams, Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, B.J. Thomas, The 5th Dimension, Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and the Papas, Carpenters, Perry Como, Rod McKuen, Doris Day, Jackie DeShannon, and Andy Williams, and has compiled releases for talents including Robert Goulet and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Over the past two decades, Joe has also worked in a variety of capacities on and off Broadway as well as at some of the premier theatres in the U.S., including Lincoln Center Theater, George Street Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, and the York Theatre Company. He has felt privileged to work on productions alongside artists such as the late Jack Klugman, Eli Wallach, Arthur Laurents, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. In 2009, Joe began contributing theatre and music reviews to the print publication The Sondheim Review, and in 2012, he joined the staff of The Digital Bits as a regular contributor writing about film and television on DVD and Blu-ray. Joe currently resides in the suburbs of New York City.
