BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

There’s more on the way from The Monkees – More of The Monkees, in fact!  The long-awaited Super Deluxe Edition of the band’s classic 1967 sophomore album has been confirmed for arrival from Rhino on December 15, with 91 tracks on three CDs – 55 of which are previously unreleased!

This collection lives up to its Super Deluxe description with a plethora of alternate takes, new and vintage mixes, and perhaps most excitingly, newly-discovered live concert material from 1967.  This new edition expands upon the 2006 2-CD iteration, with producer Andrew Sandoval stating in the press release that “This is the most exciting archival dig through The Monkees’ vault since 2009’s The Birds, The Bees and The Monkees Deluxe Edition.  Every track is newly mastered for this set; the live material is the most historically significant of their career.”

In addition to the original mono and stereo mixes of the multi-platinum album, this upcoming edition includes numerous outtakes such as the first-ever versions of “Words,” “Valleri,” “Hold On Girl” and more. Backing tracks are present for early attempts at “Sometime in the Morning,” “I’m A Believer,” “Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)” and more, as well as mono TV mixes, TV performances, and new 2017 remixes.  Ten live tracks make their debut, recorded in Arizona in 1967.  These constitute the band’s earliest live recordings, and feature songs from The Monkees (“I Wanna Be Free” and “Papa Gene’s Blues”), as well as covers of Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse’s “Gonna Build a Mountain,” Ray Charles’ “I Got A Woman” and Willie Dixon’s “You Can’t Judge A Book By The Cover.”

More of The Monkees: Super Deluxe Edition is limited to 4,500 numbered copies and housed in a hardbound 7″x7″ box matching the style of past box sets dedicated to The Monkees; The Birds, The Bees, and The Monkees; Head; Instant Replay; and The Monkees Present, as well as the Blu-ray set The Monkees: The Complete SeriesThe set will ship with a limited edition 7-inch vinyl single of “I’m A Believer” (Remix)/”(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” (Vocals Only).  It’s available exclusively from monkees.com and rhino.com. 1. Instant buy as MOTM was the first LP I ever bought with my own money. Of course it doesn’t reach the heights of HEADQUARTERS or PISCES but I’m really looking forward to the bonuses here, especially the live tracks.

  2. I ordered it immediately. I’ve bought all of the Rhino & Rhino Handmade Monkees CD,DVD & Blu-ray boxed sets. and I’m an original Monkees fan. Their debut album was (in 1966) only the second L.P. in my collection. I also saw the group on their summer 1967 tour(the first concert that I ever attended). With the release of this set, the only 1960’s Monkees album that has not received the 3-CD treatment is “Pisces, Aquarius,Capricorn & Jones Ltd.” (I don’t consider 1970’s Dolenz/Jones “Changes” album to be a true Monkees album, and neither did they. It was a contractual obligation)

    1. Actually, compiler Andrew Sandoval says that he’s got enough new material, that if he gets the go-ahead to compile a “Headquarters” box set for this 7″x7′ boxed set series, it will be different to “The Headquarters Sessions”

  3. I’ve now got the set, and compiler Andrew Sandoval has done his usual superb job, though I’ll concede, that even more than the other 3-CD expanded Monkees albums, that this one is definitely for hardcore fans. In the course of this box, Sandoval remixes all of the songs from “More of the Monkees”(though “I’m a Believer” is represented by an alternate take).
The box contains not one, but two mixes of “Tear Drop City”, with the tape running at the actual speed that the instruments were recorded at, though i’m still convinced (as are many fans), that these “correct speed” mixes present Micky Dolenz’s vocal running slow.(I.E. that Dolenz was hearing a sped-up playback of the instrumental tracks when he recorded his vocal). Only Dolenz can answer that question….if he remembers this session more than 50 years later.
