Love Kills: Joe Strummer's Solo Material Highlighted In New Collection

When it comes to Joe Strummer, 001 is the number to watch.  That's the name of the upcoming box set that shines a deserved light on the late Clash frontman's work outside of his famous band - solo, with former bandmate Mick Jones, and with his 101ers and The Mescaleros.  001 arrives on September 28 from Ignition Records in an array of formats, including 2CD, 2CD Deluxe, 4LP, and a 2CD/4LP/7"/Cassette Super Deluxe edition.

The first CD of 001 compiles 20 eclectic, previously released sides showcasing Strummer's many musical endeavors including deep soundtrack selections, collaborations with Jimmy Cliff and Johnny Cash, and cuts from The Astro-Physicians, Radar, Electric Dog House, and Joe Strummer & The Latino Rockabilly War.  The second disc boasts a treasure trove of 12 previously unreleased tracks from the solo Strummer as well as the triumvirate of Strummer, (Paul) Simonon and (Pete) Howard; The Soothsayers; Pearl Harbour; and Strummer with The Mescaleros as well as Mick Jones.  Among the highlights of this disc are the 1975 demo of "Letsgetabitrockin," a song which appeared on The 101ers' Elgin Avenue Breakdown, The Soothsayers' version of "Crying on 23rd," and Strummer and The Mescaleros' version of "London is Burning."  A reworked version of the song appeared on Strummer's posthumous LP Streetcore.

The Deluxe Edition has the same contents as the standard 2 CD version but adds a notebook replica with pages drawn from Strummer's archive.  The Super Deluxe box has the 2 CDs plus the whole set on heavyweight vinyl, a 7-inch vinyl single with the unreleased 1984 demos "This Is England" and "Before We Go Forward," and a cassette with the "U.S. North" basement demo recorded by Strummer and Jones in 1986.  The box also is stuffed with memorabilia like a badge, art print, sticker sheet, and screen print.

All formats of Joe Strummer's 001 are available for pre-order now at the links below!  Look for this set in its various iterations on September 28 from Ignition Records!

How can they not put Gangsterville on here?

It's still a must purchase, but that's one of his best solo songs and there was even a video for it.
