Take A Step Back: Simple Minds Revisit Their ‘Street Fighting Years’ On New Box

On March 6, UMC will revisit Simple Minds’ 1989 album with Street Fighting Years to the tune of a 4-CD box set. The cinematic Trevor Horn and Stephen Lipson-produced LP featured the band’s first U.K. No. 1, “Belfast Child,” even as the group underwent personnel changes. This expanded edition is the latest in UMC’s ongoing Simple Minds reissue series and features a newly remastered version of the album (undertaken by Andrew Walters at Abbey Road Studios) alongside a disc of B-sides, edits and 12″ remixes. The box is rounded out by a previously unreleased live show from Verona on September 15, 1989. In a switch that’s sure to surprise fans, no surround sound mix is included.

2-CD and 2-LP editions of Street Fighting Years will also be released. The CD configuration features the first two discs of the big box set, while the double vinyl features the core album remastered. Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day.
