Cherry Red continues their ongoing excavation of the Howard Jones catalogue with a new set that collects two remix albums from the mid-'80s: one a special early part of his discography, and one a treasured rarity for Japanese collectors.

The label will issue a 2CD set on March 18 featuring the contents of The 12" Album and 12"ers Vol. 2, which collected a plurality of mixes, some B-sides and the odd unique track from the Human's Lib and Dream Into Action albums. 1984's The 12" Album featured extended versions of "Like to Get to Know You Well," "Pearl in the Shell" and "What is Love?" - all Top 10s from 1983 debut Human's Lib - plus B-side "Total Conditioning," a new cut called "Always Asking Questions," and a sprightly re-recorded version of breakthrough debut single "New Song." A gold-selling album in Jones' native England, most of the tracks on this album have not been used as bonus material on Cherry Red's previous reissues. (The 12" Album was previously reissued by Jones' Dtox label as part of a box set with American EP Action Replay (1986).)

Japan's 1985 follow-up 12"ers Vol. 2 took a similar approach to its U.K. predecessor, including remixes of Dream Into Action singles "Things Can Only Get Better," "Look Mama," "Life in One Day" and Human's Lib single "Hide and Seek," plus two B-sides. (For its first release outside of Asia, a track list "error" has been corrected, using the properly-cited mix of B-side "Bounce Right Back" instead of the original 7" mix.)

Both programs have been remastered from the original tapes, with the accompanying booklet featuring rare imagery and liner notes by Stephen W. Tayler, who mixed The 12" Album. Pre-order links and a full track breakdown are below!

Mike Duquette

Michael Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he discovered there was more than one version of John Williams' soundtrack to E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, with bylines on catalog at Discogs, City Pages and Ultimate Prince and credits on titles including the Grammy-winning 'Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with an ever-expanding collection of music.
