Two Tons o' Fun Get the Feeling

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

Two Tons o' Fun, Get the Feeling: The Complete Fantasy/Honey Recordings (Real Gone Music/Second Disc Records) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Real Gone Music)

Second Disc Records and Real Gone Music celebrate Two Tons o' Fun - a.k.a. Martha Wash and Izora Rhodes Armstead, a.k.a. The Weather Girls - with a complete 2-CD anthology that serves as a companion to last year's Sylvester release, Disco Heat: The Fantasy Years 1977-1981.  Get the Feeling: The Complete Fantasy/Honey Recordings, which arrives during Pride Month 2024, brings together both of the Two Tons' albums - the first of which features Sylvester himself in the band and contributing the song "Taking Away Your Space" - plus a host of rare single versions, remixes, and extended versions. This collection marks both complete albums' U.S. CD debut, while most of the bonus tracks are also new to worldwide CD.  For the occasion, we've given the albums a considerable sonic upgrade: all tracks have been newly remastered from the original Fantasy Records tapes by Mike Milchner at SonicVision. The collection also contains a deluxe 24-page, full-color booklet designed by John Sellards with rare photos as well as liner notes by TSD's Joe Marchese featuring quotes from "Queen of Clubland" Martha Wash, who went on to be the voice of C+C Music Factory, Black Box, and Seduction; and the late Izora Rhodes Armstead, Sylvester, and Harvey Fuqua. Hallelujah!  Read more here!

Nick Robbins has remastered all of the audio, and the package (including replica wallets and Atlantic-inspired CD labels) has been designed by Roger Williams.  The deluxe 32-page booklet includes comprehensive, album-by-album notes by The Second Disc's Joe Marchese drawing on exclusive quotes from John Edwards, Michael Zager, Tawatha Agee, and the late Henry Fambrough, to whom this set is dedicated.  Note that Amazon U.S. and Canada will not be shipping this title until July 12. Richard Dimples Fields The Albums 1980 1985

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

Richard "Dimples" Fields, The Albums (1980-1985) (Robinsongs/Cherry Red) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

We've got yet another soulful treat for you today! Cherry Red's Robinsongs imprint celebrates late soul man Richard "Dimples" Fields for his first major release of the CD/digital era.  Dimples was an unusual figure on the soul music landscape: a self-proclaimed feminist who portrayed himself as a two-timing ladies' man, whose quirky ballads including "She's Got Papers on Me" and "If It Ain't One Thing, It's Another" were alternately earnest and humorous.  This set includes all three of Fields' Boardwalk LPs - Dimples (1980), Mr. Look So Good (1982), Give Everybody Some (1982) - and his two RCA releases, Mmm... (1984) and Dark Gable (1985).  The Albums 1980-1985 is housed in an eight-panel digipak, and the 20-page full-color booklet includes new liner notes by TSD's own Joe Marchese as well as credits and photos.  Oli Hemingway has mastered the audio.  Read more here!

Johnny Cash Songwriter

Johnny Cash, Songwriter (Mercury Nashville/UMe)

CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Official Store (Smoke Color Variant with Lithograph)

Songwriter features 11 vocals cut by Johnny Cash in 1993 at LSI Studios in Nashville, augmented by recently-recorded new backing tracks at the Cash Cabin in Hendersonville, Tennessee by Cash's son John Carter Cash and co-producer David "Fergie" Ferguson. Every one of the tunes was composed solely by Cash himself, from lead single "Well Alright" and the romantic "I Love You Tonite" to songs that have been heard on other albums by the country icon ("Sing It Pretty Sue" was cut by Cash in 1962, while "Drive On" and "Like a Soldier" were re-recorded by Cash with producer Rick Rubin in 1994 on the fateful sessions that became American Recordings - the start of Cash's late-career comeback).  The Man in Black's fifth posthumous album, Songwriter will be available on CD, LP, and digital formats as well as a Target-exclusive 2CD edition with a 12-track bonus disc re-presenting the 2010 Cash volume of UMe's Icon series.  Read more here!

Available on CD, LP, and digitally.

Interesting that Dimples guy...never heard of him before, but he sounds fun/comedic/bonkers...I may take a swing at that, Spinners I have on preorder, and will eventually get that 2 Tons set (along with the Sylvester & Weather Girls, Loleotta & First Choice sets), eventually the Yes, def getting the Neil Young...but here are 3 more key titles you did not mention...first, the HIGHLY buzzed about new 8th album by LA punk-rooted, offkilter powerpop legends Redd Kross (self-titled "Redd" album) & second/third, new albums by buzzed alt-country acts Kaitlin Butts ("Roadrunner!!") & Silverada (self-titled, formerly called Mike & the Moonpies, as that name was originally a joke that stuck & the band is a lot more serious but still great fun live)...
