A quartet of slimmed-down New Order reissues are due this week, alongside new Blu-ray Audio editions of three of their early albums.

Rhino has released “Definitive Edition” box sets of the influential British electronic band’s first four albums in recent years: 1981’s Movement in 2019, 1983’s Power, Corruption & Lies in 2020, 1985’s Low-Life in 2023 and 1986’s Brotherhood in 2024. Each heavy-duty set came with the remastered album on CD and vinyl, a bonus CD of mostly unreleased material and troves of rare video content on Blu-ray. (The original B-sides and 12″ versions, included on late ’00s reissues of the albums, were saved for accompanying vinyl reissues of the original singles.)

Now, for the more economical fan, new 2CD packages will feature the album and audio bonus material from those boxes. But there’s a little more to enjoy – especially if you’re a surround audio fan. Movement, Low-Life and Brotherhood will also be available on Blu-ray Audio, featuring a quartet of new mixes of each album by acclaimed engineer Steven Wilson. Each will be available in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 surround and new stereo and instrumental mixes, alongside the original stereo remasters done on CD at the time of each Definitive Edition release. (Some multi-track tapes of the band’s are missing: Brotherhood tracks “As It Was When It Was” and “Broken Promise” have been up-mixed from the stereo remaster, while Power, Corruption & Lies is not being released in immersive audio.)
