The 58^th Annual Grammy awards were held a little over a week ago and there were numerous winners.  The Grammys have so many categories that the majority are not given out on the actual television broadcast.  Even though we’re a little late, we’d like to give acknowledgment to the winners from reissue and catalogue labels who picked up an award, some for categories that aren’t always exclusively associated with reissues.

The biggest winner of the night for reissue labels was Sony’s Legacy Recordings.  The label, whose upcoming slate of releases includes a stunning, complete box set for Elvis Presley – won awards in three categories:

Best Historical Album – Bob Dylan and the Band: The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 (Columbia/Legacy); Steve Berkowitz, Jan Haust & Jeff Rosen, compilation producers; Peter J. Moore & Mark Wilder, mastering engineers

               Best Arrangement, Instrument and Vocals – David Bowie: “Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime),” from the Bowie compilation album, Nothing Has Changed; Maria Schneider, arranger (This was the new song on that compilation, thus making it eligible for a Grammy Award.)

Best Surround Sound Album – Roger Waters: Amused To Death; James Guthrie, surround mix engineer; James Guthrie & Joel Plante, surround mastering engineers; James Guthrie, surround producer

The other reissue label winners were:

Third Man Records/Revenant Records – Best Boxed or Special Edition Package – Various Artists: The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records, Volume 2 (1928-1932); Susan Archie, Dean Blackwood & Jack White, art directors

Rhino Records – Best Album Notes – Joni Mitchell: Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced; Joni Mitchell, album notes writer
