In their first-ever digital-only box set, the music lovers at Rhino have curated That's Aught: The '00s Pop Culture Box, a 150-song collection that celebrates the many sides of that decade of music. From pop and hip-hop, country, pop-punk, soul, dance, and underground music, the selections are as diverse as the decade was. The staff at Rhino have sequenced the selections in more-or-less chronological order, beginning with *NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" before continuing on to iconic hits from music veterans U2 ("Beautiful Day") and Madonna ("Music.")
Massive hits from decade-defining acts like The Flaming Lips, The White Stripes, Destiny's Child, Alicia Keys, Gnarls Barkley, Daft Punk, Linkin Park, Missy Elliott, and Lady Gaga also feature in this throwback collection that's 9 hours strong. What's more, a number of iconic "one-hit-wonder" smash successes are accounted for, from The Baha Men's "Who Let the Dogs Out?" and Fountains of Wayne' "Stacy's Mom." Altogether, it's a comprehensive collection with track after track of decade-defining music.
But it's not just the new millennium that the label is celebrating. Rhino has also launched streaming versions of a dozen other acclaimed box sets, which, aside from a couple exceptions due to licensing issues, replicate the sequencing and song selections of the original CD sets. Among these are the legendary Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From All The Psychedelic Eras, One Kiss Can Lead to Another: Girl Groups Sounds Lost And Found, Have A Nice Decade: The '70s Pop Culture Box, Can You Dig It? The '70s Soul Experience, No Thanks! The '70s Punk Rebellion, The Heavy Metal Box, Like Omigod! The '80s Pop Culture Box (Totally). Other music subcultures are explored in Left of The Dial: Dispatches From The '80s Underground, Poptopia!: Power Pop Classics From The '70s, '80s, and '90s, Whatever Whatever: The '90s Pop & Culture Box, and Brit Box: UK Indie Shoegaze & Brit Pop Gems of The Last Millennium.
With over 1,200 songs between them, Rhino's box sets serve as an excellent overview of different eras and genres from across modern music history. Now their classic sets and the newest addition, That's Aught: The '00s Pop Culture Box enter the digital age for all to enjoy across Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and YouTube. This is brilliant! Rhino becomes a playlist curation service for the streaming generation. No licensing issues or complications (as far as their pockets are concerned). I hope they do more.
Sam, can’t find the Rhino sets on Spotify. When will they be available?

The 00's box looks OK but there really should be a physical box too...and one more thing, but not surprised they are missing...best girlgroup ever are missing... In the Guinness Book for most successful reality TV group in history and hold the record for group with the most top 10 consecutive singles... In the UK and no US deal...Girls Aloud...with 20...,they coulda easily been represented on this set... With 1 song at least...so this set gets an automatic demerit...it should represent music from the whole world, chart success, not just the US...
Needs to be issued on physical media streaming sucks
