Here are some more releases from labels big and small that have us adding to the wish list, with descriptions based upon those provided to us by the record labels.

A balance of classic standards, ballads, blues, and more, the album presents a survey of the musician's many talents. The double-LP set was mastered by Bernie Grundman and pressed at RTI. Originally compiled in 1994, Some Old Bullshit brings together some of the Beastie Boys' earliest work, culled from EPs and recordings from the early '80s. A far cry from the band's game-changing hip-hop sound, these tracks represent their beginnings as part of New York's hardcore scene. The compilation now arrives pressed on limited-edition white vinyl.
The Beat Farmers, Live at Spring Valley Inn 1983 (Blixa Sounds, 2-LP, 1,000 copies)
Blixa Sounds once again mines the vault to find this rip-roaring 21-song set of the San Diego roots-rock band, recorded live in 1983. The concert took place two years before the band's debut Tales of the New West was released on Rhino in 1985. So this double-album set presents something of a prologue to their career. Thankfully, that means her work can be reappraised and enjoyed once more. Take for example this new reissue Dalton's 1969 album It's So Hard To Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best. The Herbie Hancock Trio is a stripped-back album, originally a Japan exclusive, that saw him team up with Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums from his days with Miles Davis' classic quintet. The trio laid down a clutch of Hancock originals and even a Davis composition on this lost album. Up 'til now, the vinyl edition of The Herbie Hancock Trio was only available in Japan. This 12" single features two gems by jazz legends - Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" on Side A and Nina Simone's "I Hold No Grudge" on Side B. David B says
It's a shame when record companies deliberately exclude certain sections of the record buying public from being able to buy the music they want. I'd love to have the Nancy and Lee unreleased track (poss cd single revival time??) but, like many others, I don't have (or indeed want) a record deck ..
Guy Smiley says
WOO-HOO!!
No George Harrison 50th Anniversary Box of All Things Must Pass, but a VINYL SINGLE with a gimmicky color (Or is that absence of color) instead? HECK YEAH!!
That’ll keep us ALL happy while the Harrison estate continues to keep the vault locked tight, amirite?
Anyone...? Anyone?
Yeah, me neither. All things must PASS, indeed.
Still waiting on Early Takes Vol. 2.
Brian from Canada says
All Things Must Pass may have been delayed due to Covid — note that the recent book from the Lennon estate identifies a 4 CD/2 DVD Ultimate box set for Plastic Ono Band despite it not being announced with a release date yet.
Dhani Harrison did say they have been listening to a lot of tapes from that period… as well as the 1974 tour. It sounds like it's coming… we're just in a holding pattern at the moment.
Demetrio says
The much-maligned tour would be a great release. Hear a bit of the performances and they were good, particularly with billy preston around.
Guy Smiley says
Agreed. What little I’ve heard was pretty good. I suspect the performances are much better than history has led us to believe.
George’s voice was shot, OK. Maybe he needed to rest up. But I would love to hear (and see?) whatever’s out there.
Guy Smiley says
OK, I’ll turn the snark off for a bit.
Hope you’re right about the ATMP box. Hope you’re right about a 1974 tour release too.
I want to like Olivia and Dhani, but the only words I can think of when it comes to George’s legacy are “miserly” and “stingy.” I mean, again, Early Takes Vol. 2 anyone?
Wasn’t aware of Lennon/POB being announced. That’s good news too.
Since the Get Back movie was postponed, it sure seems like there’s no Let It Be box happening this holiday season either. Maybe next year will be Beatles Bonanza of Bountiful Boxes!
