The latest volume of Bob Dylan's long-running archival series, Springtime in New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985) covers the period in which Dylan recorded the albums Shot of Love (the final LP in his so-called "Christian trilogy"), Infidels, and Empire Burlesque.  While in a creatively fertile period as a songwriter and performer, Dylan was dealing - like everyone else - with the seismic changes that the 1980s brought in the sound of music itself, and this period reveals his coming to terms with new production techniques and the use of electronics.  Springtime in New York will be available in various formats: a 5CD Deluxe Edition box set, unique 2CD and 2LP highlights collections, and a 4LP distillation which was available only through Third Man Records as part of that label's ongoing Vault subscription series.  The largest iteration, the 5CD box, features 54 previously unreleased outtakes, alternates, live performances, rehearsal tracks, and more.  Three previously issued cuts round out the collection.  Read more here!

UMe revisits Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's original 1970 concept album to Jesus Christ Superstar starring Ian Gillan, Murray Head, and Yvonne Elliman as a 3CD expanded box set with a disc of (largely unheard) bonus material; 2LP standard and deluxe editions; and a 2CD edition.  All versions have been newly remastered by Miles Showell and Nick Davis at Abbey Road Studios.  Read more here.

The Last Music Company has served up the ultimate tribute to blues-rock hero Jimmie Vaughan with this impressive new box set celebrating his 70th birthday.  The Jimmie Vaughan Story has 5 CDs and over six hours of music chronicling his career up to the present day plus a 12-inch LP of Jimmie's 2001 album Do You Get the Blues? plus a stunning 240-page book, a 45 RPM vinyl single of "Out of the Shadows," and an autographed print of the box set cover.  Vaughan's work in Storm and The Fabulous Thunderbirds is addressed here as well as his solo recordings and collaborations with such luminaries as Art Neville, B. B. King, Billy F. Gibbons, Bo Diddley, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Charlie Musselwhite, Delbert McClinton, Doyle Bramhall, Dr. John, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker, Robert Cray, and of course, his brother Stevie Ray.  The set is not being issued digitally, but is available in a 5-CD cutdown that contains the five compact discs and 240-page book but lacks the vinyl and other goodies.  Watch this space for an in-depth look at this remarkable retrospective.

The Nancy Sinatra Archival Series from Light in the Attic continues with CD, vinyl, digital, and 8-track (!) reissues of Nancy's debut album, 1966's Boots, originally issued on the Reprise label and featuring not only the chart-topping "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" but Sinatra's gutsy yet sensual renditions of Hazlewood tunes ("So Long Babe," "I Move Around") and contemporary covers (The Beatles' "Day Tripper" and "Run for Your Life," The Rolling Stones' "As Tears Go By," Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me Babe") alike.  The CD and LP reissues add two bonuses including the "Boots" B-side "The City Never Sleeps at Night" (also written and produced by Hazlewood) and the previously unreleased outtake "For Some."  The latter, a ballad written by Bennie Benjamin and Sol Marcus, is currently streaming.  John Baldwin has remastered Boots from the original stereo master tapes.  Read more here.

Singer-songwriter Andrew Gold's frightfully enjoyable Halloween Howls makes its vinyl debut today from Craft Recordings in standard black (available everywhere) and neon orange (available at independent record stores) pressings.  Additional swag can be found at Craft's official store.  For the gatefold release, Craft has commissioned new artwork by illustrator Jess Rotter and added one bonus track, the "Undead Tombstone" remix of "Spooky, Scary Skeletons."  Halloween Howls has the same hallmarks of musicianship and wit that mark Gold's more traditional singer-songwriter offerings.  It features original songs ("Spooky, Scary Skeletons," "It Must Be Halloween," "In Our Haunted House") and covers of Halloween favorites ("Ghostbusters," "Monster Mash," "The Addams Family") plus a bevy of special guests including Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Bishop, Karla Bonoff, Nicolette Larson, and David Cassidy.  Get all of the details here.

Omnivore gives three '80s new wave/indie-rock classics from Gleaming Spires their CD debuts in lavish expanded editions featuring many previously unreleased tracks.  Gleaming Spires performed with Sparks between 1981-1985 and shared a similarly literate yet off-the-wall sensibility.  Read more here.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!  The Emmy-nominated 1966 television special was the third overall for Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts series and the second to be holiday-themed, after A Charlie Brown Christmas.  It earned a whopping 49 share in the ratings and was so successful that CBS re-aired it every year through 2000, with ABC picking up the tradition after that.  Yet despite a beloved score by Vince Guaraldi (who else?), a soundtrack album to Great Pumpkin had never been released in any audio format until a CD arrived in 2018 from Craft Recordings.  In 2019, Craft brought that premiere soundtrack presentation to standard black and limited glow-in-the-dark vinyl.  Now, it's returning from the label in a new 45 RPM pressing on orange pumpkin-shaped vinyl just in time for Halloween!  Read more here.

BMG's Montreux Years series continues with two volumes today.  Marianne Faithfull's edition collects 14 tracks from her performances at Montreux Jazz between 1995 and 2009 including such classics as "Come and Stay with Me," "Sister Morphine," "Tower of Song," and "Working Class Hero."  Available on 2 LPs or 1 CD.

Muddy Waters' volume draws on his Montreux Jazz performances between 1972 and 1977.  The blues man delivers favorites including "I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man," "Got My Mojo Working," "Mannish Boy," and "Rock Me Baby" in this 16-song set.

Yep Roc brings two 21st century albums from Nick Lowe back to vinyl.  2001's The Convincer is pressed on blue vinyl and adds a bonus 45 with three songs; The Old Magic is pressed on green vinyl.  Both titles have been sourced from the original masters and are limited to 1,000 units.

Ozzy Osbourne, No More Tears: 30th Anniversary (Epic/Legacy) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Ozzy Osbourne's sixth studio album, originally released in 1981, returns to vinyl in both a standard 2-LP 180-gram black vinyl edition and a 2-LP 140-gram colored vinyl edition with a unique booklet.  The latter format is available only through TowerRecords.com.  Simultaneous with the vinyl releases comes a digital-only expanded edition featuring 12 bonus tracks including a mash-up of Ozzy's original "Hellraiser" with Motorhead's cover.  No CD version of the digital release is currently planned.

Octave Music continues its Erroll Garner series with a previously unreleased 9-song set from Boston's Symphony Hall recorded in 1959.  Late piano legend Garner, in a trio setting, performs such classic standards as "A Foggy Day (In London Town)," "But Not for Me," "I Can't Get Started," and "Misty."  Available on CD, LP, and digitally.  On the same date, the complete Symphony Hall concert will be issued as a limited edition box set of 3 LPs (plus a bonus LP sampling the Garner series) and a digital download available exclusively through Garner's website; the complete show doesn't appear to be offered in the CD format.  Additionally, an even more limited box available at Garner's website adds all 12 of Octave's past Garner reissues on CD to the collection.

Lindsey Buckingham returns with a self-titled album, his first solo release in a decade.  It was written, produced, and recorded by Buckingham in his home studio and features new songs including "Scream," "Swan Song," and "Power Down."  Available on CD, LP, and digital formats.

Silky and soulful songstress Rumer returns with a new live album recorded in London last winter.  The CD, vinyl, and digital release features songs from Rumer's most recent album, Nashville Tears, as well as past staples including "Slow," "Aretha," and covers of "Sara Smile" and "Love Is the Answer."

The artist formerly known as John Wesley Harding has seemingly taken his cues from Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross, Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and Georgie Fame (with dashes of Burt Bacharach, Dave Frishberg, Mose Allison, Donald Fagen, and Roger Nichols and Paul Williams) for this musical romp that happily skips back-and-forth from jazz and bossa nova to bubblegum and everything in between.  Late Style serves up sleek pop replete with brass, vibes, harpsichord, sweet background singers,  all composed by Stace and David Nagler, co-producer of the album with Chris Von Sneidern.  Melodies such as "Everything All the Time," "All the Yous," and "The California Fix" will stick with you long after Late Style has stopped spinning.  Available on CD and digital formats.
