Stand Back: Stevie Nicks Hits and Rarities Collected On New Career Spanning Collections

February 22, 2019 By Joe Marchese 9 Comments

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

Next month, Stevie Nicks will make music history as the first female artist to receive her second induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, following her 1998 induction with Fleetwood Mac.  Nicks has hardly been resting on her laurels; after wrapping a recent, acclaimed solo tour, she's embarked on a 50th anniversary tour with the newly-reconstituted Mac.  Now, Rhino is celebrating her accomplishments with a new, career-spanning collection.  Stand Back 1981-2017 will arrive in a variety of formats beginning on March 29 with a 1-CD release (also available on digital download and streaming).  Then, on April 19, a 3-CD iteration will arrive in stores, followed by a 6-LP vinyl version on June 28.

Stand Back draws on all eight of Nicks' solo studio albums from 1981's Bella Donna (which included such hits as "Edge of Seventeen," "After the Glitter Fades," the Don Henley duet "Leather and Lace," and "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers) through 2014's 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault (with its all-new recordings of songs Nicks had penned over the decades but never recorded properly).  Rarities and one-offs are also an integral part of the package.

The first disc of the 3-CD edition concentrates on her major solo hits including the aforementioned "Edge of Seventeen" and "After the Glitter Fades" plus "Stand Back," "If Anyone Falls," "Rooms on Fire," "Talk to Me," "I Can't Wait," and many more.  The second disc spotlights her collaborations with other artists including Henley, Petty (not just "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" but also "I Will Run to You"), Walter Egan (his 1978 top ten hit "Magnet and Steel"), Kenny Loggins ("Whenever I Call You Friend"), John Stewart ("Gold"), Lady Antebellum ("Golden," "Blue Water"), and many others.  The third CD explores Nicks in concert, with selections from the Bella Donna tour and 2009's The Soundstage Sessions.  (Her Fleetwood Mac classics "Dreams," "Sara," "Gold Dust Woman," "Rhiannon" and "Landslide" are heard in solo versions.)  It's rounded out with a helping of soundtrack performances from such films as Heavy Metal, Practical Magic, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Book of Henry.    The single disc highlights edition (18 songs) appears to differentiate itself from the 3-CD set with the inclusion of certain songs in their single versions.  The 6-LP version mirrors the contents of the 3-CD set.

Look for the 1-CD version of Stand Back 1981-2017 on March 29 from Rhino, with the 3-CD version following on April 19 and the 6-LP set on June 28.  You'll find currently active pre-order links below as well as the full track listing.  We'll update with all links once they're active.

As of earlier today, the 3CD link wasn’t yet active. The single disc was selling for $15 at Amazon, however.

Would be nice to finally see an official release for Buckingham Nicks. Why has this remained unissued on CD officially so far?

    Hey! Another Stevie Nicks collection!

How many does that make now? Five, not counting Mac “Best Ofs”? With Mac, that number probably doubles (at least).

She might have almost as many compilations as actual albums of new songs.

This one seems to cover a lot of ground though, so that’s cool. I like that it includes those John Stewart and Walter Egan songs.

Hard pass on the likes of Lasy Antebellum, Leann Rimes, and Lana Del Ray though.

Cool collection but still need the "Enchanted" box (not everything was carried over, like the 12" Rock Mix of "I Can't Wait") and the CD/DVD of "Crystal Visions" which has some remixes and the DVD of vidclips...and still no "Sometimes It's A Bitch" either...will still buy the 3CD set even tho I will never forgive what she did to Lindsey...she owes her whole career to him...

I note Amazon lists the packaging dimensions at 6.75 in X 5.32 in X 0.5 in, so that is worth considering for anyone whose CD racks can't accommodate oversized packaging. (I'm afraid that deters me from buying it.)

Are you referring to one of the subsequent editions? I can confirm that the single-disc version, available now, is housed in a standard jewel case.
