On November 15, Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford are planning to take the stage at Chicago's United Center as Genesis to launch the band's first North American tour since 2007. (The European leg kicked off in September.) The tour is entitled The Last Domino? (note the question mark), and four days after its debut, Rhino in the U.S. and Virgin/UMC in the U.K. will release a companion collection. The Last Domino?, the album, is due on November 19 and will offer 27 tracks, including hits and deep cuts, on 2 CDs or 4 LPs.
The Last Domino? has been curated in conjunction with the band and the majority of its songs will be heard on North American tour stages this year. It's sequenced non-chronologically - rather like a concert setlist - blending tracks from Genesis' prog period (including samplings from Selling England by the Pound, Wind and Wuthering, and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) with later, more pop-leaning material including the single hits "Follow You, Follow Me" (No. 23 U.S./No. 7 U.K.), "Invisible Touch" (No. 1 U.S./No. 15 U.K.), "Throwing It All Away" (No. 4 U.S./No. 22 U.K.), "In Too Deep" (No. 3 U.S./No. 19 U.K.), "I Can't Dance" (No. 7 U.S. & U.K.), and "Hold on My Heart" (No. 12 U.S./No. 16 U.K.). Conspicuously absent from the collection are the hits "Misunderstanding" (No. 14 U.S./No. 42 U.K.) and "No Reply at All" (No. 29 U.S. Pop/No. 2 U.S. Mainstream Rock).
With the departure of guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Steve Hackett in 1976 after the album Wind & Wuthering - Anthony Phillips had left after 1970's Trespass and Peter Gabriel after 1975's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - the streamlined trio began to concentrate on streamlined music. "Follow You, Follow Me" became Genesis' first U.K. top ten hit and U.S. top 30 single, setting the stage for the international success of the string of albums including Duke (1980), Abacab (1981), Genesis (1983), Invisible Touch (1986), and We Can't Dance (1991). Genesis soared concurrently with Phil Collins' solo career which began with 1981's Face Value and its massive hit "In the Air Tonight." Collins left Genesis in mid-1995, confirming the news early the next year; Banks and Rutherford pressed on with one album, 1997's Calling All Stations, without him. It remains Genesis' final studio album to date.
The 4-LP set of The Last Domino? will be housed in a hardcover gatefold book-style package featuring includes rare and unseen images as well as fresh photos from the rehearsals of The Last Domino? tour. Note that there are fewer tracks here than on 2004's out-of-print The Platinum Collection which boasted 40 songs on 3 CDs. 2014's R-Kive took a completely different approach, including solo cuts from Collins, Gabriel, Hackett, Rutherford (with his band Mike + The Mechanics), and Banks alongside Genesis favorites.
The Last Domino? arrives from Rhino (U.S.) and Virgin/UMC (U.K.) in CD, LP, and digital formats on November 19. You'll find the track listing and pre-order links below.

What??? Not one song from "A TRICK OF THE TAIL"!!!!!
Greg T. says
I don't know how prolific Genesis was in the studio over the years, so not sure how much is left in the vault after the various box sets and Archive releases. One thing I know for sure is that we don't need yet another greatest hits set. Older fans like myself already own these songs umpteen times over, and the younger generation isn't buying much physical media, so not sure who this set is targeted at.
Guy Smiley says
The rare Genesis fan who
A.) Doesn’t already have, or most of these songs already
B.) Still buys physical media
C.) Likes all eras of the group (Gabriel, post-Gabriel but still somewhat progressive, and pop hits more or less indistinguishable from solo Collins) equally.
So, yeah, this will be lucky to sell more than a few thousand copies.
Guy Smiley says
A.) should’ve “have ALL, or most, of things songs already.”
Guy Smiley says
THESE songs. Sheesh.
Wish we had an “edit” button here.

looks like the setlists of the current tour. i guess they drew them up together. could've included Los Endos
zubb says
Meh! Nothing here for me, especially when they leave out obvious tracks like those mentioned.
Bruce Padgett says
Omitting “Misunderstanding” from Duke is practically criminal! Also, “Behind the Lines” from the same album is a worthy cut. And where’s “Man on the Corner” from Abacab? Oy vey. While it’s difficult to fit everything into a 2-CD set, some songs would seem to merit automatic inclusion.
Bernard says
If indeed the Boston’s shows will be the last for Phill wouldn’t it make sense that a special guest appearance from Gabriel to do a song or two (In the cage etc etc) would be appreciate to close the book on Genesis the greatest prog band ever.
Just a thought
Bruce Padgett says
Peter didn’t show when they were inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. So don’t hold your breath waiting for him to show up in Boston or anywhere else.
Mark H. says
I seem to remember there are different configurations for the US vs. Europe.

a worthless collection. the u.k. has a different track listing. the tour should never happen. phil looks awful and cant even stand. hang it up it over.
Paul says
I went to Liverpool concert last night and it was fantastic. Phil is in fine form. I felt physically lifted once he started to sing, he was amazing. He uses a walking stick to get around and slumps a bit in the chair, but he still brought a lot of his natural showman with him. The PBS documentary shows the band during rehearsal and Phil's voice is a little weak. I felt deflated when I saw it but was encouraged knowing Phil recognized it would become stronger with rehearsal. And it has. I am so glad I got a ticket.
Joy Crisp says
I was there too and it was fantastic, vocals were on target every time and Phil's son Nick was very impressive taking over his dad's drums!! Loved it!!!
Allan Reber says
Genesis is IMO the best prog rock band ever. Their early days are unmatched by anyone. Foxtrot (my personal favorite) is a masterpiece, don't get me started on Supper's Ready ( many may not realize the prophetical implications of that song, see Revelation 19:17) It's bittersweet to see them go, but they had an awesome run!!!
Wintw says
I think some of the songs are remixes are they not? Can't remember if they are previously released ones or not.
