TSD is kicking off our look at this year's Record Store Day Black Friday releases, due at participating independent record stores on November 28, with a typically packed slate coming from Rhino. With over 30 titles, the label has brought out the heavy hitters (many of which are RSD mainstays) including The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Todd Rundgren, Van Halen, and more. We've also included a handful of releases from Rhino sister labels such as Warner (with a Tom Petty live collection) and Elektra (an EP from modern-day superstar Bruno Mars). Smile Happy: Rhino Unveils New Quadio Batch with America, WAR, Hot Tuna, Jefferson Starship
I'm going to have to get that Burdon/War, aren't I? I already have the "Complete" Vinyl Collection...
Wonder if Curtis is a new master. The blurb says it's Bellman, but he already cut it for the "Keep On Keepin' On" box set a few years back.
In for the GD Warfield on both CD and LP. Might try to score the Eric Burdon & War on CD. Kudos to Rhino putting those on CD. Shame the Fleetwood Mac isn’t on a standalone CD too.
The Dead is “must-have” for me. My other must-haves are from Sony, and I am very concerned about the ridiculously low availability for one of them. More to come when we get to that one.
The Joni Mitchell might be one I consider too. Again, shame there’s no CD. Might’ve considered the Doors if it were on CD too. Just not that into vinyl.
Exactly
Joni Mitchell, Rolling Thunder Revue (Asylum/Rhino) (180-gram LP; 5500 copies)
This set has been culled from Joni Mitchell's fourth volume of Archives and features live recordings of "Black Crow," "Edith and the Kingpin," "A Case of You," "Coyote," and more.
So check the setlist but Archives is definitely on cd...
I have that Archives box on CD...
Of this Rhino list, the ones i am most interested in are the a-ha, Ramones, Talking Heads, maybe the Deee-Lite, Devo & B-52s...but that Dwight Yoakam, i need to know if it is getting a CD box as well, if not on RSD then later when?? The previous volume of 80s albums & rarities DID get a CD box as well and this should too...if not, bad call... and with the Legacy list, most interest in the Morgan Wade EP & have to see the price on the Prince...am getting the 2CD deluxe but that looks cool as well...
Time the labels got their heads out of their asses and realised there's a big market for CDs. We're not all interested in overpriced frisbees. The market is evolving.
