If you'll forgive the easy reference, there's no one quite as bewitching as Stevie Nicks. Since she joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and helped turn them from British blues-based cult act to blockbuster pop/rock icons, her enrapturing voice and stage presence have influenced generations. In 1981, she began a parallel solo career with hits on her own that helped make her, in 2019, the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice. It's that solo material that's the subject of a brand-new box set from Rhino, featuring all eight of her studio albums and a host of rare material.
Complete Studio Albums & Rarities brings together just about all of Nicks' own output between 1981 and 2014, a period covered by Rhino's Stand Back compilation from 2019. The set features the chart-topping Bella Donna (1981) and follow-up The Wild Heart (1983) - both presented as remastered for a pair of deluxe editions in 2016 - newly-remastered versions of Rock a Little (1985), The Other Side of the Mirror (1989), Street Angel (1994) and Trouble in Shangri-La (2001), and the late-period successes In Your Dreams (2011) and 24 Karat Gold - Songs from the Vault (2014). The set closes out with a newly-compiled double album of Rarities, featuring 23 B-sides, bonus tracks, compilation songs, material from nine different soundtrack collections and Nicks' recently-released cover of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth."
With Nicks in demand thanks to Fleetwood Mac hits like "Rhiannon," the chart-topping "Dreams" and "Sara," plus treasured album cuts like the moving "Landslide," she was keen to offload some of her own song ideas (after the sprawling Mac album Tusk (1979), masterminded mostly by bandmate and ex-boyfriend Lindsey Buckingham) into a record of her own. With the help of producer Jimmy Iovine and a murderer's row of session players - drummer Russ Kunkel, guitarists Waddy Wachtel and Davey Johnstone, Bruce Springsteen's pianist Roy Bittan, and guest appearances from Don Henley of the Eagles and all of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers - Bella Donna was a certified smash. "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "Leather and Lace" - duets with Petty and Henley, respectively - and the blistering "Edge of Seventeen" were all Top 20 hits, helping launch the album to the top of the Billboard charts. 1983's follow-up The Wild Heart reunited Nicks with most of her previous collaborators plus a brilliant uncredited cameo from Prince on synthesizers for the Top 5 smash "Stand Back."
The singer expanded her sound into a sleeker pop style as the '80s continued: Rock a Little and The Other Side of the Mirror featured collaborations with producers and songwriters like Rick Nowels, Mike Campbell and Rupert Hine and featured hits like "Talk to Me" and "Rooms on Fire." After a greatest hits album, a stint in rehab and a reunion with Fleetwood Mac at Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration, Nicks' next album Street Angel was marred by a troubled production, remixed at the 11th hour to make room for some of her regular collaborators. 2001's diverse Trouble in Shangri-La was seen by fans and critics as a return to form, and when not recording or touring with the Mac, she'd issue two more albums: In Your Dreams and 24 Karat Gold - Songs from the Vault, featuring new recordings of demos the singer had been stockpiling for years. (It's one of Nicks' only albums to get a proper deluxe edition at the time of release; all of the tracks from that version are present here.)
As Nicks tours North America in 2023 - including several co-headlining dates with Billy Joel - Complete Studio Albums & Rarities offers the most comprehensive look at her work thus far. It'll be available July 28 as a 10CD and digital set; Rhino's official web store will carry a numbered 16LP box, limited to 3000 copies and pressed on crystal-clear vinyl. The Rock a Little B-side "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star" appears above as the first digital teaser of the set, which can be pre-ordered below.

Stanley Steamer says
I like Stevie, that being said, she did not contribute to turning them from British Blues cult band to breakout....etc, etc. The middle period of Mac with Danny Kirwin & Bob Welsh made great contributions to the transition from da Blues
Larry Davis says
I'm happy this box is forthcoming end of July...recently I was under the impression that deluxe reissues of her solo albums stopped, as it was taking too long for those for "Rock A Little" & "The Other Side of the Mirror" to get released, so I caved when I saw good-priced used CD copies of her titles from "Rock A Little" to "In Your Dreams", so I bought em as a temporary measure until more deluxes and/or a box like this would come out...and it is!! I also have at least 4 compilation/boxset titles of her solo work, as each one is unique and has something the others don't, like exclusive tracks, a DVD, her numerous collaborative duets on others' records, etc...so it looks like I don't need "Timespace" anymore cuz its exclusive tracks are all here, but I still need to hang onto the deluxe "Crystal Visions" for the DVD, orchestral tracks & remixes; the "Enchanted" box for the packaging/photos, collaborations & 12" of "I Can't Wait" (unavailable on CD anywhere else); the 3CD "Stand Back" cuz of the collaborations & the 2 deluxes of "Bella Donna" for the live disc (reprised on vinyl for RSD, only on CD here) & the 2CD "The Wild Heart"...however until this new box, I noticed that some tracks from a few soundtracks were not compiled on these sets, BUT are on the new box like from "Sweet November" & "Practical Magic", so I can either get rid of those as well or file em differently under the movie titles instead of with SN/FM to keep it all together...one track not here, understandably, is "Twisted" with Lindsey from the "Twister" soundtrack, but it's fine, I have that disc, an interesting eclectic soundtrack, except for VH, whom I cannot stand...lastly, I heard SN has an assortment of 12"s, more than just "I Can't Wait" & this box was a missed opportunity to include em all...perhaps a 12" collection is forthcoming?? And this set might be it for SN solo records as I read she sees no use in recording more new music...maybe more unreleased recordings a la "24 Carat Gold" as doesn't she have a huge stockpile?? Anyhoo, buying this box no question, pre-ordered, bring on July 28!!

A look at the early Mac's commerical success in the UK and some other Euroipean markets belies any characterization of them as a "cult" band and, to follow up on Stanley's comment, the "blues-based" label had worn off long before Stevie Nicks joined.
Joe says
Stevie needs to record a 2nd follow up to 24 karat gold or pack it in.Shes getting too old to continue to do concerts too far into the future. She should do the right thing release the rhiannon project she's been talking about for the past 40 years along with songs never released.Tom prince and other artists released everything they had.Shes way too self absorbed.
CJ says
Tom and Prince (especially Prince) certainly have not released everything in their vaults, and bulk of the push for is during that material followed their deaths, so let’s not go wishing Stevie will “do what they did.”
Phillip Curci says
I agree with you Joe Steve is too caught up in the Stevie nicks brand!! That's why I didn't even bother to go see her last year at Red rocks I've seen her Red rocks for the last 30 plus years and no new music!! Way too high of ticket prices would have already heard the same setlist for the last 40 years!! LOL
Bruce Padgett says
Alas, the 2016 remasters being used for the early albums are notably more compressed than the original CD releases. And judging from what Larry Davis’ superbly comprehensive post indicates, a good number of tracks will be absent from the new box.
Just who approved the final track list anyway? As well as using compressed masters on at least the older stuff? Come on Stevie, give us a break!
Phillip Curci says
Agree with you who approved the final setlist on this box set?? I can't believe she left off the single show them the way one of the newest songs she's done and it was actually a good song oh well aside for maybe 10 songs that I don't have on that last disc I'll probably save my $400 that they're probably going to want for that!! LOL
