In recent months, Rhino has reestablished itself as a preeminent player in the world of immersive audio. Three waves of Quadio releases have seen classic quadraphonic mixes of albums by Randy Newman, Spinners, Gordon Lightfoot, America, and Black Sabbath - among others - reissued on Blu-ray. Now, the label is launching a new series of Dolby Atmos mixes in physical Blu-ray format. The first four titles in the series comprise quite a marquee bunch: Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill, Hootie & The Blowfish's Cracked Rear View, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and The Best of The Doors by The Doors. The Alanis and Hootie titles are available now, while the Fleetwood Mac and Doors releases arrive on April 26. All titles are available directly from Rhino.com.
The dark, personal songs about anger, love, loss, and apathy on Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill struck a chord with audiences during the alternative-rock movement of the 1990s. Pill took off like a rocket and would eventually sell over 33 million copies, going 17x Platinum and becoming the 16th best-selling album of all-time in the United States. It was also named the "Top Pop Album of the 1990s" by Billboard and hit the No. 1 spot in numerous countries around the world. Six singles were released, with the most successful being "Ironic," which hit No. 4 on the Hot 100. The album also garnered much critical praise and Morissette and the album received four Grammy Awards. More recently, it was adapted into an acclaimed Broadway musical. Rhino's Blu-ray of Jagged Little Pill features Dolby Atmos and PCM 24/96 High Resolution Stereo mixes.
Hootie & The Blowfish's 1994 album Cracked Rear View spun off four successful singles ("Hold My Hand," "Only Wanna Be with You, "Time," and "Let Her Cry") and earned a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance, Group or Duo. The album topped the charts in New Zealand, Canada, and the United States, where it reached No. 1 five times during 1995. It's since been certified 21x Platinum. The upcoming Blu-ray reissue includes Dolby Atmos, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound, and PCM 24/96 High Resolution Stereo mixes. (The 5.1 mix first appeared on DVD in 2019.)
Turning back in time, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977) won the Grammy for Album of the Year and has sold over 40 million copies worldwide - and counting. Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie's masterwork has become the stuff of legend, even inspiring the current Broadway play Stereophonic. "Dreams" became the band's first song to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, with "You Make Loving Fun," "Don't Stop," and "Go Your Own Way" all additionally reaching the top ten. The upcoming Blu-ray has Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD 5.1, and DTS-HD Stereo mixes. (The 5.1 mix of Rumours was first issued back in 2001 in the DVD-Audio format.)
Finally, the first round of titles concludes with The Best of The Doors, a limited-edition Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD 5.1, and DTS-HD Master Stereo mixes, all of which have been mixed by the band's original engineer, Bruce Botnick. The 1985 compilation drew on The Doors' first six albums including the chart-topping "Light My Fire" and "Hello, I Love You" as well as further staples "Break on Through," "People Are Strange," "Touch Me," "Love Me Two Times," "Hello, I Love You," and "Love Her Madly." The double album has sold over 10 million copies to date.
Jason Jones, a Senior Director of A&R at Rhino, comments in the press release, "It's always been crucial for music fans to immerse themselves in what they are listening to. I think of being in my bedroom with my headphones on and being caught up in the swirl of what I was listening to. With the advent of Atmos, I've been transported back to that original feeling. They stay true to the original mix's intention while taking advantage of the full capabilities of the immersive format, with the added bonus of being sourced from the original multi-track master tapes." Senior Director of A&R Patrick Milligan adds, "Immersive audio is here to stay, and it's a wonder to hear it on a full surround system. This is our first set of releases of Atmos on Blu-ray, and we're excited that for most of these titles, we are also offering 5.1 Surround Sound mixes. If you've only heard Atmos in your headphones, hearing these releases on a home theater system is dramatic and envelops you gloriously in the music."

Great news for surround sound fans, hopefully the first of many. How about universal getting back in the game ?
They launched blu ray audio and then let it die . C'mon Sony your Japanese 7" are fantastic ,but way to infrequent.
A nice reboot of back catalogue would be much appreciated - especially classic Motown .

Purchased! Dolby ATMOS needs to be heard n an open air listening environment to get the full immersive effect!

Rhino's page doesn't specify, but I have to assume the Doors disc will be based on the same set of Botnick remixes that accompanied the initial set of Atmos mixes that were released to streaming services a few years back (i.e. not just mixed differently for Atmos, but mixed differently altogether, like the 40th Anniversary CDs)?

Ocean Rain by the Bunnymen needs the Atmos treatment.

I hope that Rhino utilizes the Blu-Ray audio format as a vehicle to reissue many of the albums that they once offered on the DVD-Audio format. I'm equiped for 5.1(i don't have space in my listening room for 11.2 ATMOS) Many ATMOS mixes will play OK in 5.1 or 7.1(but the ATMOS mix in Rhino's recent Deep Purple- Machine Head 4-disc set is one that plays poorly in 5.1.Luckily, I own Rhino's deleted DVD-Audio of the album, which has the 5.1 mix in its' entirety
Furthermore, of the 33 DVD-Audio discs on Warner Music labels that I own, four of them are rotting. The main stereo & surround audio tracks are still playable, but the bonus audio & video tracks have simply disappeared from the disc. 3 of those 4 rotted discs are in The Doors' "Perception" box (The other is Billy Cobham-Spectrum).
There is a need for a modernized edition of "The Doors-Perception" box(CD+ Blu-Ray audio)

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath screams that this would be a outstanding Atmos mix followed by vol 4 from Black Sabbath Sabbath. JOE WALSH So What would be great. Travis Meadows 1st cigarette. Their is a lot going on in the stereo mix but the atmos would be jaw dropping and jeun le ponty cosmic messager.
