8CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
2CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
4LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada
The beginnings of Bob Dylan's long and extraordinary career are being revisited by Columbia and Legacy Recordings on the eighteenth installment of the artist's long-running Bootleg Series. Through the Open Window: The Bootleg Series Vol. 18 (1956-1963) arrives on 8 CDs as well as 2CD and 4LP "highlights" editions, all chronicling Dylan's earliest days from Minnesota to Greenwich Village. The full 139-track box set opens with a December 24, 1956 recording at a music store in St. Paul, MN and culminates with the official premiere of Dylan's complete October 26, 1963 Carnegie Hall concert which took place just a few months before the February 1964 release of his third studio album, the landmark The Times They Are A-Changin' (his first to feature all original compositions). The highlights releases offer 42 tracks from the larger set. The lion's share of the music on this Bootleg volume is previously unreleased and/or new to wide-release CD, with some tracks having previously appeared on the rare "copyright collections" and others on past Bootleg volumes. It's all accompanied by a book with liner notes by Sean Wilentz as well as rare photos and memorabilia. Get the track listing and more here.
The Who, Who Are You: Super Deluxe Edition (Geffen/UMe)
7CD/Blu-ray: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / The Who Official Store
4LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / The Who Official Store
2CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / The Who Official Store
Half-Speed Master LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / The Who Official Store
Yellow Vinyl LP: The Who Official Store
Following such previous super deluxe album box sets as Who's Next, The Who Sell Out, My Generation, Tommy, and Quadrophenia, 1978's Who Are You receives similarly lavish treatment. The band's eighth album, Who Are You was also its final studio LP to feature drummer Keith Moon. The centerpiece of the multi-format release is a 7CD/1Blu-ray set which will offer the remastered original album as well as Glyn Johns' original, shelved mix and new stereo and surround mixes by Steven Wilson; a disc of session takes, outtakes, and John Entwistle demos; previously unreleased tracks from the 1977 Shepperton Studios rehearsals, including favorites ("Won't Get Fooled Again," "Baba O'Riley") and covers ("Spoonful/Smokestack Lightning," "Shakin' All Over") plus an embryonic live version of "Who Are You" recorded in Toronto, 1976; six tracks from the live concert at Shepperton for the filming of The Kids Are Alright documentary, plus rehearsals with new drummer Kenney Jones for The Who's 1979 American tour; and live recordings from the 1979 American tour including performances from Michigan's Pontiac Silverdome, Philadelphia's Spectrum, and Detroit's Masonic Temple. 4LP, 2CD, and limited edition colored and half-speed-mastered vinyl editions are also available. Sheena Easton, Strut: The Complete EMI Recordings Vol. II (Cherry Pop) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Strut - The Complete EMI Recordings Vol. II picks up where its predecessor Modern Girl left off, following the same structure: most of the discs offer expanded and slightly altered programs covering the albums A Private Heaven (1984), Do You (1985), and No Sound But a Heart (1987). The inclusions of alternate versions or mixes in place of or beside some originals makes for even more unreleased tracks on this set: 40 unissued cuts to Modern Girl's 25, along with several tracks that have only been available on vinyl or digitally. Strut sweetens the deal by not only including a revised version of the "uncut" sessions version of Do You released as a deluxe set by Cherry Red last year, but offering the newly-constructed album Shockwave, comprised of non-album and unissued material recorded in 1986, plus a newly-curated collection of 12" mixes and a DVD offering over two dozen music videos. A 48-page booklet offers new liner notes (featuring insight from Easton's collaborators including Narada Michael Walden, David Leonard, Greg Mathieson and Adele Bertei) and rare photographs. Faces, Early Steps (Rhino) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Following a welcome box set of BBC recordings last year, Faces go back to the beginning with a disc of 10 previously unreleased alternates, outtakes and rehearsals that led to the group's 1970 debut First Step. These tracks feature the classic line-up of three Small Faces (drummer Kenny Jones and the sorely missed keyboardist Ian McLagan and bassist Ronnie Lane) and two veterans of The Jeff Beck Group (singer Rod Stewart and future Rolling Stone/recently anthologized guitarist Ronnie Wood) - a U.K. rock powerhouse. The set features liner notes by the band's longtime archival producer Rob Caiger.
The Cars, Heartbeat City: Deluxe Edition (Elektra/Rhino) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The Cars' penultimate album and biggest commercial success is coming back in a box set. Rhino reissues the group's Heartbeat City as a 4CD/1LP set, a year-delayed 40th anniversary celebration that'll include the original album on CD and vinyl alongside a wealth of bonus material (including tracks featured on previous expanded editions of not only this album but 1980's Panorama). Highlights include the non-album B-side "Breakaway," remixes of the single "Hello Again," a number of early versions and demos (including one of standout track "Drive" as well as "Shooting for You," a Panorama outtake revisited during the Heartbeat sessions) and even an early mix of the whole album. The set is capped off with a live set recorded at The Summit in Houston, TX during the promotional cycle for the album, released in part as a longform video four decades ago and featured here with additional material. Keyboardist Greg Hawkes pens new track-by-track liner notes, and drummer David Robinson (who also designed all the band's album covers) offers his recollections in a new essay. Eternity's Children, Eternity's Children (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada) / Timeless (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada) (High Moon)
The fine folks at High Moon Records has given the deluxe treatment to Eternity's Children's two albums (the self-titled release and Timeless), originally released in 1968 and 1969 on Tower and its parent label, Capitol Records, respectively. These two soft psych/sunshine pop classics return to vinyl for the first time in over 50 years as produced, annotated, and beautifully designed in gatefold packaging by Now Sounds' Steve Stanley, with sparkling new remastering by Dan Hersch. Eternity's Children was produced by Curt Boettcher and Keith Olsen, while Timeless was helmed by Gary Paxton and features Clarence White of The Byrds. For fans of The 5th Dimension, The Mamas and The Papas, The Association, Sagittarius, and so on - you know who you are! Watch this space for full coverage of both titles soon!

All Souls, compiled by frontwoman Siouxsie Sioux in celebration of the autumnal equinox, offers hits like "Spellbound" and "Peek-a-Boo" alongside rarer cuts like the non-LP B-sides "El Dia de Los Muertos" and an off-the-wall cover of Ben E. King's "Supernatural Thing."
Blondie, No Exit: Expanded Edition (BMG)
2CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada

Universal Music Recordings are shooting a new box set in the right direction, covering Frankie Goes to Hollywood's U.K. pop landmark Welcome to the Pleasuredome in exhaustive new detail. Though it's already been exhaustively been reissued since The Second Disc started operating - once on a 2CD set from Salvo Music, on 2014's vinyl/cassette/DVD set Inside the Pleasuredome (along with a 2018 Record Store Day box set of 12" singles and the 2022 RSD comp Altered Reels, which brought a pair of cassette single presentations to vinyl) - another one (part of ZTT's ongoing catalogue agreement with Universal Music Group) is coming in multiple formats today in the U.K. and next Friday in North America. The jewel is a 7CD/Blu-ray box that includes a remaster the album, relevant single and B-side material, and 35 previously unreleased tracks (including demos, BBC sessions and some outtakes); it also includes new stereo, surround, and Atmos mixes of the album by Steven Wilson. The discs are housed in a 10" x 10" slipcased package also including a 38-page book featuring a timeline of the Pleasuredome era by Kevin Foakes of DJ Food fame. Wilson's stereo mix has also been pressed to vinyl; a 2CD edition includes a selection of mostly unreleased tracks from the box alongside the album. (Confusingly, several of the songs appear to be unique to the 2CD set or differently titled from the box.) Still want more? Read more here!
