It's a Great Soundtrack, Charlie Brown! Kritzerland Premieres Score by Guaraldi, McKuen

March 17, 2017 By Mike Duquette 4 Comments

KR Charlie Brown Cov 600x600

For nearly 50 years, getting the complete score to 1969's animated feature A Boy Named Charlie Brown was as fruitless as kicking a football held by Lucy Van Pelt. Kritzerland's newest album changes all that, offering Vince Guaraldi and John Scott Trotter's score and Rod McKuen's songs as they appeared in the film for the very first time. A Boy Named Charlie Brown found producer Lee Mendelson and director Bill Melendez teaming up again to bring Charles M. Schulz's beloved Peanuts comic strip

Into the Flood Again: Legacy To Release 25th Anniversary Edition of "Singles" with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Paul Westerberg

Singles Deluxe Edition

In 2000, writer/director Cameron Crowe dug into his personal memories as a writer for Rolling Stone for Almost Famous, the story of a reporter on tour with the fictional band Stillwater.  The film would garner great critical acclaim, winning a Golden Globe for Best Film - Musical or Comedy and winning the Academy Award for Best Screenplay.  The soundtrack album would win a Grammy.  But this was certainly not Crowe's first film to include the music industry nor his first to have a prominent

Stanley Iris grande

Varese Sarabande Records has quite the bounty of soundtrack CD club releases this spring, announcing two stellar deluxe editions and reissuing a favorite album on disc. First up, a double-header for John Williams fans: his 1990 score to the romantic drama Stanley & Iris and the premiere release of his score to 1972's Pete 'N' Tillie. Neal, Meet Neil: Varese Premieres Hefti's Scores to Simon's "Barefoot," "Odd Couple"

March 9, 2017 By Joe Marchese 6 Comments

Barefoot in the Park

If there's a sound associated with playwright Neil Simon, it's that of laughter.  And if it's a musical sound, it's the sound of Neal Hefti.  The late composer (1922-2008) created the memorable theme that introduced The Odd Couple to the big screen in 1968, and has been subsequently heard on television in 1970, and once again today in a small-screen revival.  Varese Sarabande's We Hear You series has recently offered a tale of two Neil/Neals with the world premiere releases on CD of the original

Hitting The Road: Kritzerland Offers World Premiere of Mancini's Original "Two for the Road"

March 3, 2017 By Joe Marchese 1 Comment

Two for the Road OST

With its most recent release, the Kritzerland label has one for the books...Two for the Road.  The soundtrack specialists are now accepting pre-orders for the world premiere release of Henry Mancini's original score as heard in the 1967 film classic.  As Mancini fans and collectors know, it was the composer's practice to re-record his scores for pop-friendly (and indeed, quite popular) LPs on the RCA Victor label.  This release from Kritzerland marks the first appearance anywhere outside of the

February 17, 2017 By Joe Marchese 1 Comment

For over 40 years, the names of director Steven Spielberg and composer John Williams have been inextricably linked.  Since 1973's The Sugarland Express on which they first worked together, only two Spielberg pictures have not featured a score by Williams (1985's The Color Purple and 2015's Bridge of Spies).  On March 17, Sony Masterworks will celebrate the enduring collaboration of these two titanic talents with the release of John Williams and Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection.  This
