We Will Box You: Queen Remasters Box Coming to U.S.

March 31, 2011 By Mike Duquette Leave a Comment

Just a quick note for those of you thinking about how you're going to tackle these Queen remasters when they come to the United States on May 17 (they're of course already available in the U.K.): just as England got a special box of all five deluxe editions, so will we. But it's not going to be found in any store.

Queen's Facebook page (the band is actually really good at using social media to update fans appropriately) just linked to an Amazon-exclusive Queen 40 box that will contain the deluxe editions of Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races in one convenient package. So if you were going to import these sets just to get the box and you're okay with waiting a bit longer, the box will be available day-and-date with the other reissues on May 17.

As always, keep it here for the latest updates on Queen and all other catalogue greats!

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.

My pre-order for this went in over two weeks ago. Glad I didn't jump on the imports.

I've been debating whether or not to get the reissues...I'm very unsatisfied with the bonus material and I'll still need to hold on to the originals for the remixes (which are admittedly horrible but I can't part with them). If this goes on sale I'll probably go for this but $70 for 5 albums is too much, especially since it's less than half the catalog.

I pre-ordered my copy a week ago. I noticed that Amazon has updated the product page with a picture of the box, discs, and poster. The box appears to be big enough to only hold the five albums included with it. This leads me to believe that there will be a box for every phase of reissues, which is different than the UK box which will hold all fifteen releases (which I prefer). Just FYI

Woops!! My mistake. The Amazon box is the same as the UK box which, itself, only holds the first five albums

I bought the imports over the weekend 20 a pop an Vintage Vinyl in New Jersey. Sound is great but it didn't hit me until I listened to The Prophet's Song from NIGHT AT THE OPERA, after the accapella section the guitars kick in and they always sounded muddy. Not anymore, awesome!
