That chill in the air and the buzz in your favorite record store can only mean one thing: Record Store Day Black Friday is nearly upon us! On November 25, indie record retailers and labels great and small will partner together to issue dozens of exclusive packages you can't get anywhere else (except maybe eBay, after the fact, though we're not happy about that.)
The vinyl boom refuses to end, but owing to the lesser size of the event in general, there don't seem to be as many titles as usual. That said, after previewing some last week, we're rounding up a bunch more in two parts! First up, we've got all the titles coming out from our friends on the West Coast: Rhino Records and Omnivore Recordings!
A dozen titles--four from Omnivore and eight from Rhino--are on the books for this year. Omnivore's slate recaps the incredible year they've had, with stellar deep cut archival titles for The Bangles, The Beach Boys and Big Star; Rhino's diverse offerings highlight recent and upcoming reissues by the Ramones, The Afghan Whigs, The Monkees and The Cars, while teasing a forthcoming release from Jethro Tull and issuing a new hip-hop-centered 45 RPM series!
Check out all the titles below--and stay tuned for a round-up of more of our favorite titles!
Afghan Whigs, Black Love: Deluxe Edition (Elektra/Rhino)
The Cincinnati indie rockers celebrate the 20th anniversary of their fifth album with a 2CD or 3LP reissue of the album featuring a bonus disc of nine unreleased demos.
The Bangles, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Bangles! (Omnivore)
Everything from this summer's essential collection of the California quartet's pre-Columbia material is now available on red vinyl, limited to 2,000 copies.
The Beach Boys, Becoming The Beach Boys: Highlights From The Hite & Dorinda Morgan Sessions (Omnivore)
Omnivore released the band's famed pre-Capitol sessions of 1961-1962 in full this summer--and now they're putting 18 tracks from that set on LP! 3,000 copies will be made, and they're all randomly pressed on red, blue or yellow vinyl!
Big Star, Complete Third Vol. 1: Demos to Sessions to Roughs (Omnivore)
This double-vinyl release, limited to 2,500 copies, features everything on the first disc of Omnivore's expansive Third box set. (Note: this is marked as a "RSD First" release, meaning some version of it will be available beyond November 25.)
Blue Man Group, Three (Rhino)
The experimental art group's third studio album, released earlier this year to celebrate the group's 25th anniversary, comes to 1,200 copies of blue splattered double-vinyl with two unreleased bonus tracks. (This is also an "RSD First" release.)
The Cars, Just What I Needed b/w I'm In Touch with Your World (Elektra/Rhino)
First released in the U.K. in 1978, this 7" picture disc variant of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees' first Top 40 hit is limited to 4,000 copies.
Foreigner, The Flame Still Burns b/w Feels Like the First Time (Atlantic/Rhino)
The melodic rock masters are celebrating 40 years together this year, and they've paired up a new, unreleased version of "The Flame Still Burns" (written by Mick Jones in 1998 for the mockumentary Still Crazy) alongside their first of nine Billboard Top 10 hits, first released in 1977. This 10" EP will be limited to 3,250 copies.
Jethro Tull, Ring Out, Solstice Bells (40th Anniversary Edition) (Chrysalis/Rhino)
This seasonal 7" EP, first released in 1976 and limited to 2,000 copies, features new Steven Wilson remixes of the title track and outtake "Magic Bells" (to be released widely on a reissue of Songs from the Wood (1977) next year) alongside the original EP's "Christmas Song" and 1989's "Another Christmas Song."
The Monkees, Good Times! Plus (Rhino)
Four outtakes scattered across various retail exclusives of the band's astounding Good Times! from this summer, now on one 10" opaque red vinyl EP! Includes the Zach Rogue-penned, "Terrifying," an alternate of Ben Gibbard's "Me & Magdalena," the Andy Partridge-written "Love's What I Want" and "A Better World."
Jaco Pastorius, Jaco: Original Soundtrack (Omnivore)
A limited black vinyl pressing (2,000 copies strong) of the soundtrack to last year's documentary about the famed jazz bassist.
Ramones, Live At The Roxy 8/12/76 (Sire/Rhino)
This 180-gram vinyl set features 16 of the best tracks from both live sets at the famed Los Angeles club that are included on the 40th anniversary edition of Ramones, as handpicked by original album producer Craig Leon.
The Sugarhill Gang/CHIC, Meet Your Maker (Sugarhill Records/Atlantic/Rhino)
This 7" single, the first in a novel new series, pairs the hip-hop label's debut single A-side from 1979 with the chart-topping disco smash it sampled. It's limited to 3,500 copies.
