Record Store Day the U.K. Way: British Labels Line Up Vinyl Exclusives

March 18, 2025 By Mike Duquette 1 Comment

Our ongoing Record Store Day 2025 guide has covered the exclusive titles coming on April 12 from Universal Music Group, Sony's Legacy Recordings, Warner Music's Rhino, BMG and Craft Recordings, as well as titles from favorite indie licensors like Real Gone Music and Omnivore. Next up, we're taking a look at international releases from two of our favorite U.K. labels!

British label and artist services hub Cooking Vinyl has planned a half-dozen titles for RSD, running the gamut from stalwarts of their catalogue (Alison Moyet of Yazoo, alt-rockers Camper Van Beethoven) to alternate approaches of classic rock greats (outtakes from The Alan Parsons Project, a new approach to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon from former bassist Roger Waters). Meanwhile, Demon Music Group's Edsel label has several vinyl reissues and rediscoveries due, highlighting their associations with the likes of T. Rex, Dead or Alive and Suede as well as unreleased live sets from the Pixies and Status Quo.

It's also worth noting a whole host of Record Store Day titles will be released exclusively in British record stores - not to mention a scattering of some of these titles (and others!) getting much needed CD releases, too. Keep an eye on The Second Disc for a post about all of those as well as a few other RSD exclusives worth spotlighting, too! For now, here's a look at Cooking Vinyl and Edsel's offerings...

COOKING VINYL

Camper Van Beethoven, Telephone Free Landslide Victory (Clear/Orange Marble 140g LP; 3000 copies; RSD exclusive)

The debut album from the genre-bending alt-rockers (led by future Cracker vocalist David Lowery), featuring the seminal "Take the Skinheads Bowling," comes back to vinyl for its 40th anniversary in a faithful replica of its original packaging, down to the KraftPak paperboard cover.

Cowboy Junkies, More Acoustic Junk (Yellow 180g LP; 1500 copies; RSD exclusive)

A sequel/reboot to the Canadian alt-country group's 2009 limited stripped-down disc, More Acoustic Junk features five of the 11 tracks from that album (three of them newly remixed) with another five new acoustic recordings.

Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, Keep Me in Mind Sweetheart (180g LP; 1500 copies; RSD exclusive)

Scottish singer/cellist Isobel Campbell and Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan made for an unusual but intriguing vocal pair in the '00s. This six-track EP takes its title from a tune off their second album together, 2008's Sunday At Devil Dust, plus five tracks from a deluxe edition of that album released on vinyl for the first time.

The Alan Parsons Project, I Robot (Work in Progress) (Blue 180g LP; 4100 copies, RSD exclusive)

Though The Alan Parson's Project's 1977 sophomore album has been reissued more than once, it's little surprise that the fastidious studio group would have outtakes from the sessions that haven't been heard. Each of the album's 10 tracks is represented in alternate form, and Parsons offers track-by-track liner notes in an accompanying 12" x 12" insert.

Roger Waters, The Dark Side of the Moon Redux (Live) (Neon Pink LP; 2000 copies; RSD First)

Whether it's Roger Waters' desire to reinterpret Pink Floyd's bestselling album from an aged vantage point or the unabated bad blood between him and former bandmate David Gilmour (who carried the group onward in Waters' absence), the outspoken singer/songwriter/bassist gave listeners a new take on The Dark Side of the Moon in 2023, and now presents the album as he and his band performed it just after the album's release, over two dates at the London Palladium in October of that year.

Alison Moyet, Hometime (Gold LP; 1200 numbered copies; RSD First)

After an eight-year absence (during which she extricated herself from a deal with Sony Music), Alison Moyet's fifth album Hometime found the former Yazoo singer dipping into alt-pop territory, with lounge-styled strings and unique notes of electronic tension. The result: one of the most acclaimed and bestselling albums of her career. This new pressing celebrates the album's gold certification from the IFPI.

DEMON/EDSEL

Dead or Alive, Youthquake Remixes (Blue 140g LP; 900 copies in U.S.; RSD Regional)

Seven remixes of "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)," "Lover Come Back to Me," "My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me to the Doctor)" and "In Too Deep," all featured on Edsel's recent 40th anniversary deluxe edition of Dead or Alive's breakthrough album Youthquake.

The London Suede, Sci-Fi Lullabies Vol. 2 (Clear 2LP; 500 copies in U.S.; RSD Regional)

Newly curated by Suede singer Brett Anderson, this sequel to Suede's original 1997 B-sides collection offers 19 non-album tracks the U.K. band released between 1999 and 2023, including a previously unreleased song, "Blinded."

The Mission, Neverland + Bonus Tracks (Translucent Red/Yellow 140g 2LP; 2000 copies; RSD Regional)

For the 30th anniversary of the U.K. goth rockers' fifth studio album, it's being expanded as a double-LP set with a side of B-sides and bonus tracks. (A longer expansion will be released on CD by Edsel, as well.)

Pixies, Bossanova / Trompe Le Mode - Live from Europe 2024 (Ice Blue 140g 2LP; 5000 copies; RSD exclusive)

Taken from the punk legends' 15-date European tour last year, this 2LP set offers full-album performances of their last two albums before a brief dissolution, originally released in 1990 and 1991.

Status Quo, Live in Glasgow 27th October 1976 (Mint/Blue 140g 2LP; RSD U.K. exclusive)

A companion to the Quo's upcoming deluxe edition of 1977's Live!, the first of the three shows that formed the basis for that album will be pressed on vinyl. As on the box, it's newly remixed from recently located multi-track tapes.

T. Rex, Bolan B-Sides (Crimson Red/Midnight Blue 2LP; 3000 copies; RSD First)

Edsel's continuing association with T. Rex continues with this new collection of 27 non-LP tunes from Marc Bolan's ubiquitous discography, including the single he released under the pseudonym "Big Carrot" and a cover of the Phil Spector standard "To Know You is to Love You" cast as a duet with partner Gloria Jones - one of his final recordings before his untimely passing in a car accident at the age of 29.
