Rex would play in both the U.S. and U.K., appear regularly on the BBC, and star in the concert film Born to Boogie produced and directed…

This fall will mark 40 years since Marc Bolan’s untimely death in a car crash in September 1977 at the age of 29, yet in that time, the music he left behind with T. Rex has only grown in stature. Hardly a year has gone by without posthumous compilations, deluxe reissues, and box sets, and 2017 is shaping up similarly. Edsel has recently followed its book-style box sets dedicated to Born to Boogie and the pairing of Tanx and Zinc Alloy with a new 3-CD Deluxe Edition bringing together Bolan’s Zip Gun…

Marc Bolan Remembered: T. Rextasy Sweeps Cherry Red With John’s Children, Gloria Jones
It’s T. Rextasy at the Cherry Red Group, with two recent titles exploring the music of T. Rex’s Marc Bolan. The Grapefruit imprint has collected two discs’ worth of material from Bolan’s early band John’s Children, while RPM has reissued two albums from Gloria Jones on one CD including the Bolan-produced Vixen. By the time Marc Bolan joined the ranks of John’s Children in 1967, the British band had already established quite a reputation. Encouraged by manager Simon Napier-Bell to engage in outrageous antics, Andy Ellison (vocals), Geoff McClelland (guitar), John Hewlett…
Life’s a Gas: T. Rex Tracks (and More) Compiled on Six-Disc “Marc Bolan At The BBC”
If you thought Edsel’s box set edition of T. Rex’s The Slider (or UMC’s super-deluxe Electric Warrior) was as big as it could get for the glam rock legends, it might be time to rethink things: SpinCDs reports a six-disc box set encapsulating all of Marc Bolan’s performances for the BBC – including both tracks by T. Rex and John’s Children – will be released in the U.K. this fall. Marc Bolan At The BBC is hardly the first compilation to collect these live-in-studio recordings – 2006’s out-of-print triple-disc Bolan At The Beeb was the latest – but it considerably ups…
Festival of Life: T. Rex’s “The Slider” Gets Super-Deluxe Treatment from Edsel
T. Rex’s iconic The Slider is getting the super deluxe treatment from Edsel for its 40th anniversary, The Quietus reports. The band’s seventh album followed up the head-turning glam rock style of Electric Warrior, which featured the U.S. hits “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” and “Jeepster.” Working again with producer Tony Visconti in Paris, The Slider is a tight, heavy-duty album – perhaps a bit denser than its predecessor, but no less rewarding. Singles “Telegram Sam” and the “festival of life” song “Metal Guru” did not chart highly in the U.S., but both appeared on the…
