Another Merry Discmas to All from The Second Disc!

No one – not even your friends at TSD HQ! – can predict the arc of music reissues. When we launched The Second Disc nearly 16 years ago, the business was in a place of surprising highs and lows. The Beatles’ albums had been remastered for the first time ever – but it seemed that stalwarts like Rhino Records were enduring hardships. Vinyl was a niche concern, streaming even more so, and who knew where the CD would end up? (And that doesn’t even account for personal growth immaterial of the music industry: the friends made, the relationships blossomed and the children born since those heady, early days in 2010!)

Over time, you – our friends and treasured readers, literally thousands strong each day! – have let us in your hearts, inboxes and browsers, indulging our celebrations (and constructive criticisms) about the art and business of re-releasing great and interesting music of the past. No genre, label or audience is too esoteric for us, no format more worthy than another (even though we are partial to our CDs here!). We love your enthusiasm for it all; we appreciate your patience as we work to cover it between the daily challenges of making ends meet and caring for families. (We even love you when you correct our facts or grammar!)

TSD set a goal to talk more, in one-on-one conversations, with people who powered catalogue sets or musical stories that piqued our interest this year. We spoke to colleagues and compilers who made possible releases by or about Marianne Faithfull, Prince, Billy Joel and Jim Reeves. We encountered folks who run comedy labels and digital backfill initiatives. And we spoke to iconic tunesmiths, terrific producers and even a talented second-generation singer-songwriter. In a time where it’s harder and harder to tell these kinds of stories in mainstream publications, we appreciate the opportunities to do so here – and we hope you like reading them as much as we like writing them.

Our pride doesn’t just extend to the pages of this website. Second Disc Records celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2025 – an accomplishment due, in no small part, to the support of readers like you. We celebrated with our biggest release ever, in conjunction with SoulMusic Records: Dionne Warwick’s Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971. This massive, years-in-the-making 12CD collection featured 280 tracks encompassing every one of the music legend’s original Scepter albums and single releases plus over 60 rare bonus tracks – 16 of which were previously unreleased (both in the studio and in concert) – for a total of over 14 hours of music. We followed it up with a smaller set for Cherry Red’s Lemon Recordings arm. Nicolette Larson’s Look in My Direction: The Warner Bros. Recordings presented, on four CDs, all of the late singer’s original studio and live albums for Warner Bros. Records, produced by Ted Templeman (The Doobie Brothers, Van Halen) and singer-songwriter Andrew Gold (“Thank You for Being a Friend,” “Lonely Boy”), plus bonus tracks.

While we weren’t able to reissue any Christmas music this year, we hope we captured the spirit of the season with our final release of 2025. Judy Collins’ The ’60s Singles continued our decade-long partnership with Real Gone Music, rounding up every U.S. single side from the luminous singer in one package on both CD and vinyl. We’re already looking forward to our first release in 2026 – and you don’t have to wait too long to enjoy it. Leon Russell with Mary Russell’s The Paradise Years 1976-1981 arrives from Cherry Red and Lemon on March 13, with four CDs containing six remastered albums and bonus tracks. If our math is correct, it will be our 65th release, and we can’t thank you enough for making it all possible, day in and day out.

The winding journey of reissues and box sets will keep unfolding next year in ways that will excite, surprise and confound us all. With any luck, our familiar favorite artists and labels will continue to shine or do so like never before. We will only be too happy to have you back with us on the journey in 2026, and wish you and your loved ones nothing but the peace, prosperity and paradise that all of us who live and love under the divine spell of music deserve.

  1. Hey guys thanks for all the reviews and records you released in 2025. Some are a bit hard to get in Europe/Holland and quite expensive but worth every cent. Have a great Xmas and an even better 2026.

  2. Happy holidays to all of the Second Disc family. I thank you for all you do( my wallet’s thanks is a bit more guarded).
I have a Second Disc New Year’s wish. I would be thrilled if there was a cd release ( Ok, I would settle for streaming ) of Mary Travers’ 5 solo albums. Any chance?
Best wishes for a great 2026.

  3. I have left a few comments here at TSD, and although I’ve never seen a reply to any of my suggestions or comments, I would like to express my appreciation for what the lads at TSD do. It is my go to source for reissues.

I have two suggestions for TSD. Neither seems likely to be possible, but one can wish. First I would like to see the late great Scott Walker’s out of print solo material reissued with the able assistance of TSD. His Decca and GTO solo non-LP singles and the albums, Scott Walker Sings Songs From His TV Series, The Moviegoer, Any Day Now, Stretch, and We Had It All.. This material could populatethree or four CDs, and complete the very hard to find missing pieces of this incredible singer’s early pop career.

The other suggestion would be a next to impossible task. Sometime in 2026, the Bee Gees catalogue will be up for a new licensing deal as the current one with Universal will expire. Rhino had it for the ten years before that, and managed to do an excellent job reissuing their first four Polydor (Atco U.S) studio albums . The reissues stopped and not due to poor sales, but rather deaths and disputes over the control of the music.

I would love to see TSD become involved with this wonderful catalogue. I can only image how rich reissues of the 1970-1974 material could be in this scenario.

Just some crazy ideas from a big fan of both artists. Happy Christmas, and hoping for a better 2026 for all.

    1. Scott Walker – Scott Sings Songs From His T.V. Series was released on vinyl again in 2020.
Scott Walker – The Moviegoer was released on vinyl again in 2021.

  4. Thanks guys, for all you do.

I get cranky at times here (Esp. at Sony for their bungling of Billy Joel’s catalogue and at Apple for the same with The Beatles) but I appreciate you putting up with it and providing us with the info we music nerds want. Happy Holidays!

  5. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone – especially Mike, Joe, and the TSD team – thanks for all you do. Grateful to be part of such a dedicated music community like this.

  6. Both Paul Anka and Dave Clark should do something about getting their catalogue reissued properly. As well as The Rolling Stones London albums.

  7. Brian from Canada

Thank you so much for all that you do: without you, many re-releases would be missed… and many contributors to the world of music poorly celebrated (if at all). A happy Christmas to you all.

Looking forward to surprises in 2026. Already Feb. 27 is making me smile.

  8. Happy holidays!!!! As a daily reader for many years, and owner of all of the titles you mentioned (and many others) I wanted to say thanks for all of the great work that you do! I altrady have Leon Russell on preorder, so keep the great music and news coming!

  9. Happy Holidaze TSD…keep up the great work…i got that amazing Dionne set…utterly sublime…16 years wow!! Was going over the passings list…good you got Chris Rea in there…you forgot one though, Todd Snider (RIP)…the upcoming music cruises (Outlaw 10, Cayamo 18 & Little Steven Underground Garage 2)…the tribute shows will be overflowing…looking forward to your annual year-end Gold A-Z list…so much good music came out this year, both new and reissued, thank goodness, as counterpoint to all the bad stuff that happened…

  10. Thank you for all that you guys do. Visit the site once a day to check on the newest and upcoming releases. Just bought the Dionne set and am excited to listen to all 12 discs.

  11. Many, many thanks to everyone at The Second Disc. This is hands down my favorite website on the internet and I appreciate all that you do here. To me this is required daily reading and NO ONE does it better than you! Happy New Year and here’s looking at a great 2026!
